In an interview with PC Gamer, Newell said the company doesn't see the need to "create a subscription service" at the moment, stating:
I don't think we need to invest in this.
Newell believes that Valve will not develop its own subscription system. However, he acknowledged the popularity of systems such as Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass and said he was willing to work with partners to " get [them] on Steam ".
I believe this is the most preferred option for customers. We look forward to working with them to provide a subscription on Steam.
Meanwhile, the Steam Deck has been given away to everyone who pre-ordered last year. Digital Foundry shared their thoughts on Valve's new handheld gaming device, calling it "impressive" although it needs some improvement.
