Man shot in North Korea for smuggling 'Squid Game' into country

A smuggler who smuggled into the country the series "The Squid Game" on USB drives and SD cards is facing the death penalty. Earlier in North Korea, a law "On the eradication of reactionary thought and culture" was passed.

It all started last week when a high school student secretly bought a USB stick of The Squid Game and watched it with a friend. He told about this to several students who became interested in the series and took a flash drive. The government censors got a tip and the students were arrested.

Schoolchildren who watched The Squid Game were sent to hard labor in the mines for a period of 5 years. A schoolboy who bought a flash drive with the series is facing a life sentence. The teachers were fired.

The North Korean government said that "The Squid Game" shows "an unequal society where the strong take advantage of the weak" and "South Korea's capitalist culture at its worst."
