The secrets of increasing the skill in Dota 2

Dota 2 is perhaps the most demanding game of our time in terms of understanding, strategy and demands on gamers. With a simple goal - demolish the opponent's base - in Dota 2 there are millions of ways to achieve it. Improving your skill in Dota 2 is incredibly difficult, but we will try to tell you the basic points regarding leveling up your game regardless of your position in Dota. Perhaps in a few years you will win Dota 2 tournaments .

How to level up your Dota 2 game from scratch?

If you are just starting to play Dota 2, then first you need to go through all the basics of learning. This may take a long time. First, you have to go through training in the game itself. It will probably not seem very interesting to you, but, in general, it will give you some idea of the basic concepts of Dota 2. Secondly, first you will need to play a special mod for beginners, where not all heroes are available. This will also make it easier for you to start your journey in a game with such a high entry threshold as Dota 2.

Then, once you've got the basics down and understand what's happening on the map, you'll need to focus on browsing.om guides. Try to find guides that have been released recently. Dota 2, like other MOBA games, changes quite often, and once a year or two there are significant changes. At the beginning of 2023, guides that appeared no earlier than the beginning of 2020 can be considered quite relevant. It was then that neutral items appeared in Dota 2.

Finding guides on a particular element of the game or just with general tips is easy. It is enough to use Google or Yandex, as well as search for the corresponding videos on Youtube or VKontakte. Another option is to stream tutorials on Twitch. To do this, in the Dota 2 section, select the "training" tag. You may not immediately find a streamer that you like, but in the end, for sure, you will stop at someone. Feel free to ask questions about the game and the actions of the player on such streams, because this is their goal.

Separation of roles in the game, teamplay

Determining your role is the most important thing in Dota 2. On the one hand, you should practice in one position in Dota in order to develop a pool of heroes and understand the intricacies of the game. On the other hand, it is important to understand how the game works in general, what teammates may want from you. For example, when playing as a carry, you start to get a better understanding of what he expects from a support, and this will improve your understanding of playing in a full support role. WellThis is true for other roles as well.

What role to choose? It is believed that beginners should start with supports, since this role is supposedly easier, but this is absolutely not the case. All roles in Dota 2 are equally complex and important. A player on each of them can lead his team to victory or defeat, having a decisive influence on the map. Besides, how can you know what you like better if you don't try all the positions in Dota.

There are five roles in Dota 2:

  • Kerry. Most often responsible for playing in the late game. Sometimes it happens that the team copes without him, and he is present in the game as Plan B. The task of the player in this role is to farm safely, try to earn as much gold and experience as possible and join team fights in time. In the late game, it is this character who leads the teams and makes decisive calls (that is, gives orders to the allies).
  • Mid laner. He can be both active and actually the second carry. However, it is better to resort to the second option only if your nominal carry has a hero that does not require a lot of farm, and he will be ready to create space for you. The midlaner is responsible for the “acceleration” of the map and its pace. The player in this role can most often have a decisive influence on the game.
  • Offlaner (Offlane). The role of this character always depends on what style of play and what heroes are in priority in a particular patch. However, most often this position should be filled with tank heroes with the ability to initiate a fight or control key enemy characters with stuns.
  • Support. A hero who goes in the same lane with the offlaner, and plays a supporting role in the game, and gets farm only when possible. Nevertheless, in this position you can often see heroes who, with the availability of items, can become full-fledged cores and surpass not only the offlaner, but also the mid-laner with the carry in terms of overall value and damage.
  • Full support (Full Support). A role for altruists who are willing to sacrifice everything for the good of the team. In this position in Dota, you will almost never have a lot of money and items, but the number of deaths will go through the roof - after all, you will always be the easiest target for enemy heroes. However, this will often create the right space for your key characters.

When choosing a role, try to take into account not only your desire, but also soberly assess your capabilities if your goal is to improve your skill in Dota 2. For example, if you frankly lack microcontrol, then perhapsOf course, you should give up playing in the mid lane, where you need to outplay the opponent 1v1. It can also be difficult for you to play, for example, illusion heroes, and then the carry role will not suit you, because this will make your character pool not the most effective.

Heroes in Dota 2

In total, Dota 2 has more than 120 heroes with their own unique set of abilities. In fact, they can also be divided into the same five roles, but it is often more correct to divide them not by these positions, but by the functions that the hero performs. Some of them overlap with roles. For example, a carry means that this is a late game hero. But you can take them both to the central lane and to the very role of a carry. There are heroes with the functions of control, niyuka (instant high damage), initiators (heroes with the ability to start a fight), supports, and so on.

For a good draft, it is better to have at least one hero in the team of the following functions: tank, initiator, control, nuke, carry. Most likely, these will not be five different heroes, but even two or three, because each character has much more than one such function. And remember, there is no such thing as control.

Typical mistakes of newbies in Dota 2

Dota 2 is such a difficult game that not only beginners, but even the best players make mistakes in it. However, newcomersI would like to warn, first of all, against repeating the same wrong actions. Most likely, this will be their main mistake. If something doesn’t work out for you, then it’s always worth taking a break, trying to see how this hero (or at this stage of the game) is played by more experienced doters. Sometimes watching a stream or replay will give a lot more than playing the game itself, in which you can constantly repeat the same mistakes.

Another mistake can be mental instability. Never argue or swear inside the game. You still won’t prove anything to your teammates or opponents, but you will waste your nerves and time, which you could use to try to win even an unsuccessful match.
