How to hijack a ship in Starfield

In Starfield, you can steal spaceships. This will add them to your fleet. Before you can modify stolen spaceships, they must be registered by paying a fee to a ship maintenance technician, who can be found on the landing pad of major cities such as New Atlantis.

Method one

Sometimes while free-roaming planets in the open world (not in cities), you will see a point called "Ship Landing Site". Use the scanner to find these dots, they appear randomly. Go there, get into the parked spaceship, defeat the crew, sit in the pilot's seat and take off. You will need the required piloting skill corresponding to the class of the ship.

Ship landing sites are randomly generated points of interest. If you can't find it, try it on another planet.

Please note that some stolen ships can only be moored by the faction they belong to. In particular, stolen Crimson Fleet ships can only be moored at The Key (Crimson Fleet Base) if you have joined their faction, as they are considered hostile in all major cities. These are space pirates.

Method two

In space battles, aimget on the enemy ship's engine > destroy the engine > then the ship can be boarded > defeat the crew > take the pilot's seat > undock the ship > Gravity jump to the nearest city with the ship's technician (if it's damaged, wait a minute for it to auto repair) > you can pay Technician 1000 credits for engine repairs and pay the ship registration fee.

First, some weapons are better at destroying engines than others. Modify your ship by talking to a ship maintenance technician at a landing site in a major city (such as New Atlantis). Install a weapon that deals Electromagnetic Damage. The damage type of the weapon will say "EM", for example, a silencer weapon deals this damage. Also use an energy weapon as a secondary weapon. A good choice is the Spark Suppressor 750. This deals good engine damage without destroying the ship too quickly. It doesn't have to be EM weapons, other types of weapons can also destroy Engines, but against low level ships they tend to do so much damage that the entire ship is destroyed before the Engine.

Destroy all other spaceships except the one you want to board. Leave only one alive. When attacking a ship, aim specifically at the engines. Do it:

On Xbox : press LB to activate the scanner > approach the enemy spaceship > A to lock onto the target > once fully locked, press X to open the aiming menu > LEFT/RIGHT to target the engine (ENG) > fire the weapon, to see engine health go down until all bars are grey.

On PC : press F to activate the scanner > approach the enemy spaceship > R to lock on the target > once fully locked, press R to open the aiming menu > A/D to target the engine (ENG) > fire the weapon to see Engine status decreases until all bars are gray.

DO NOT destroy the ship . After engine damage, exit the aiming menu (Xbox: B / PC: ESC). Fly close to the ship until the "board" prompt appears. Climb up on it with the scanner aimed at it and press Xbox: LB > hold X / PC: F > hold R.

Defeat the entire crew on board. Take the pilot's seat and choose to undock from another ship. You will need the required piloting skill corresponding to the class of the ship. Power up the grav drive and teleport to the nearest city (if the grav drive/drives are destroyed, just wait a minute in the pilot's seat and they will automatically respawn).
