In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the player must make a difficult choice - to save Treviso or Minrathous, two cities under attack by dragons sent by the elven gods. This decision, far from trivial, will affect the development of the plot, relationships with companions, and available quests throughout the game.
The choice between these cities is, in essence, a choice between supporting Lucanis Dellamorte, an Antivan thief who advocates saving Treviso, and Nev Gallus of the Shadow Dragon clan, a native of Minrathous. Each decision has immediate and long-term consequences.
The immediate consequences of refusing to aid one of the cities include: the city being given the "hardened" status, temporarily being unable to recruit Lucanis (if refusing to aid Treviso) or Nev (if refusing to aid Minrathous), losing access to the city's unique side quest (in Treviso - "Slow Poisoning", in Minrathous - "Exploring the Haven"), losing access to the local merchant, which is key to increasing reputation, and having to reopen all fast travel points. In addition, the abandoned city undergoes visual changes, the territory becomes infected, and the landscape is modified. The "hardened" status of the city remains for the rest of the game, which affects the character's available support skills.
The long-term consequences of the choice will be more extensive. The strength of the factions supported by the player depends on the number of side quests completed in the regions. While the main storyline remains the same, refusing to help Treviso will result in the Archon's death, while refusing to help Minrathous will result in Viper becoming infected. Depending on the choice, either Lucanis or Nev will feel that the restoration of their home city falls solely on their shoulders. This puts the player in a difficult situation, as weakening either faction will negatively impact the rest of the game.
The choice between Treviso and Minrathous is primarily a choice between the character the player wishes to improve their relationship with and the faction they wish to support. Treviso, being a larger city, offers more side quests. However, the final decision should be based on the player's personal preferences, their relationships with Lucanis and Nev, and their vision for the future of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Weighing all the pros and cons, the player will be able to make the best decision for themselves.
