Legendary Sumi-e in AC Shadows

Sumi-e is a style of painting that depicts animals in black and white. Players, controlling Naoe, can carefully approach the animals, focus on them, and if they get close enough, the painting process will begin. These paintings will be marked with a special icon on the compass at the top of the screen.

However, only 5 paintings are considered “legendary”, and for them you will receive a special reward, highlighted in gold. Unlike other collectibles, sumi-e do not have markers on the map, and their location must be found independently.

Four of the five legendary animals appear only in certain seasons: one animal each for spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In addition, each animal can only be found at certain times of the day - day or night. The only thing that does not affect their appearance is the weather, they will be available in any climate.

Each season consists of two half-seasons, each lasting 90 minutes of real time (the entire season is 180 minutes). To avoid wasting time waiting for the next season, look for legendary animals when you enter a new season. This can be sped up by standing still and using fast travel or switching characters when the circle in the upper right corner of the map is half or completely filled. The season change only occurs during these actions or completing quests, and the weather change cutscene itself will be short.

However, even if all the conditions are met (the correct season and time of day), the animal may not appear. The probability of its appearance is about 35%. In this case, simply move 200 meters or more and return, trying again. You can also use fast travel to speed up the process. If you encounter a moment of transition between day and night (twilight or dawn), wait until the next day.

All legendary sumi-e become available after completing the main story, when free play opens, so nothing will be missed.

Legendary Wice Monkey

• Location: Yamashiro > Small Leaf Forest > Sarumaru Shrine
• Spawn Condition: Any Season, Night.

Legendary Silver Fox

• Location: Kii > Nakaechi Route > Kamimisu Inari Shrine
• Spawn Condition: Autumn, Night.

Legendary Grey Heron

• Location: Wakasa > Lake Suigetsu
• Spawn Condition: Winter, Day.

Legendary Deer

• Location: Yamato > Yoshino
• Spawn Condition: Spring, Night.

Legendary Tanuki

• Location: Omi > Shimmering Fields > Shigaraki Village
• Spawn Condition: Summer, Day.

Once you have created paintings of all of these Legendary Animals, you will unlock the "True Rare" achievement, proving your success in finding rare and mysterious creatures.
