Initially, the infection has only visual effects that do not affect the gameplay. Your character is not weakened in any way and its stats remain intact. The only symptom that can affect the game is the infection effect, which you will observe from time to time. However, these effects never show up in combat or during conversations, so they shouldn't interfere with play.
The setting will change during the second chapter. From this point on, Jax may switch off - the screen goes dark and you are transported to another area. You can make these situations less frequent with mental training with the CRONY U4 drone. Just talk to him and choose the appropriate dialogue option.
