Spain may restrict access to games with loot boxes

The Spanish authorities are considering the introduction of a new law that will restrict access to games with loot boxes to minors. To play such a project, the user may need to enter their passport data, proving their age, and only then will they be able to enjoy the content with monetization elements attached to it.

These games include the extremely popular Diablo Immortal or Genshin Impact , in which in-game values are obtained from boxes and prayers (an analogue of the same loot boxes). This can significantly affect the income of development studios, which have many teenagers among their clients. Stories have appeared on the web more than once about how a negligent schoolboy used his parents' credit card to pay for his gaming needs.

Among other things, the new law may oblige developers to limit the amount of donations per user.
