VK will develop the first Russian game engine

The VK team plans to take on the development of the first Russian game engine. The developers plan to receive investments in the amount of 2.8 billion rubles to create the technology, while the money will not be allocated from the federal budget.

The source notes that work on the engine will begin in 2023, and the first working test build can be tested around mid-2025. At the same time, the technology can be used not only to create games, but also in the development of films, TV shows and other content.

The need to create their own Russian engine appeared due to fears that the West would prohibit domestic developers from using the tools of popular foreign engines such as Unity and Unreal Engine.
