Rocksteady Studios' upcoming Suicide Squad game maintains connections to previous games set in the same universe. The 2022 trailer caught the eye with the return of Kevin Conroy as the villainous Batman. However, in 2023, negative discussion arose around the project, raising doubts about the continuation of the Batman Arkham universe within DC.
James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios, was asked if Suicide Squad will be the last game in this universe. He clearly stated that there are no such plans and expressed his impatience for the game's release and hopes to create other projects. Fans picked up on his replies, even though they were deleted, and discussed them on social media.
Thus, it looks confident that DC plans to develop this universe within the framework of games. Perhaps new Batman projects could be inspired by nostalgia and love for the character.
However, DC is also focused on diversifying its portfolio. A Wonder Woman game is currently in development, which could indicate interest in other superheroes from their comics. Given the success of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and the announced projects Marvel's Wolverine and Marvel's Blade, the return of Batman Arkham could give DC a major advantage in the gaming industry.
