Large-scale layoffs coming to Unity

Unity plans to make the largest cuts in its history, affecting approximately 25% of its workforce, which amounts to approximately 1,800 employees worldwide.
Large-scale layoffs coming to Unity

The reduction will end at the end of March, and will be the fourth wave of layoffs since July 2022. The layoffs will affect employees from various teams, regions and areas of activity.

These measures are a consequence of the new business model announced by Unity's interim CEO, Jim Whitehurst, in November 2023. He noted that the company is reducing its operations to focus on core business aspects and ensure long-term success and profitability.

These changes come after the introduction of the Unity Runtime Fee in September 2023, which resulted in additional payments from developers for each user installation of their games. The move caused an uproar in the industry, and President and CEO John Richitello resigned from the company in October of that year.
