Update 1.3.5 for Diablo 4, released on the evening of March 26, added ray tracing to the game, improving visual effects including reflections, shadows, and global illumination.
The MxBenchmarkPC channel demonstrated the effects of enabling ray tracing, noting that the changes in graphics, while noticeable, are not drastic. The most obvious were improvements in reflections, which began to look more realistic, and soft shadows from ray tracing are noticeable only in a detailed comparison.
Tests have shown that enabling ray tracing can reduce performance in Diablo 4 up to a two-fold decrease in FPS in certain scenes. The developers advise to activate ray tracing on GPUs no worse than GeForce RTX 2060 and recommend GeForce RTX 4080 for the highest graphics quality.
