The Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire box office has surpassed the wildest expectations of the film's creators.

Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire exceeded analysts' expectations, grossing $194 million in its first weekend, well above initial projections. International box office receipts totaled $114 million, while the movie earned about $80 million in the U.S., topping the expected $50 million in the U.S. and $85 million overseas.

China topped the foreign markets with $44 million, followed by Mexico with $12.8 million and India with $5.5 million. According to Variety, Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire had the third biggest opening weekend in 2024

The success of A New Empire has contributed to the Monsterverse movie universe's total box office receipts now exceeding $2 billion. The film ranks second in the franchise in terms of opening weekend collections, behind 2014's Godzilla.
