FromSoftware has admitted that it underestimated the amount of time it would take players to get through Elden Ring, and has now not revealed how long it will take to get through content from the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
In January 2022, a month before Elden Ring became hugely popular with millions of gamers, FromSoftware's Yasuhiro Kitao estimated that it would take around 30 hours to get through the main storyline. However, as it turns out, the game was so extensive that even a second playthrough is unlikely to fit within those limits, much less the first. In a fresh interview with Chinese publication Bonfire, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki declined to specify how long Shadow of the Erdtree will take to complete.
The Shadow of the Erdtree add-on will cost $40, which implies that the DLC will be quite extensive, though not comparable in size to the base game.
The final verdict on the length and content of the DLC will be known after its release, which is scheduled for June 21.
