Digital Foundry criticized the non-extgenic update for Fallout 4

Thomas Morgan from Digital Foundry conducted a technical analysis of the recent Fallout 4 update for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The specialist from Eurogamer expressed disappointment with the results: he noted many technical flaws, especially in the Xbox version.

On PC, especially criticized support for ultra-wide monitors, where the image is simply stretched, instead of correctly adapting to the 21:9 format. Also, the game cannot be run above 60 FPS without using third-party methods.

The console versions lack HDR support, and on Xbox there are problems with switching between Quality and Performance modes, which Bethesda explains as an inherent functionality - supposedly provides stability of 60 FPS when changing resolution. On PS5, Quality mode is available with 30 or 40 FPS, where the picture quality is comparable to the ultra settings on PC, but with shadows at mid-range settings.

Resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X ranges between 2016p and 4K, with occasional FPS drops to 50-55 being recorded. On the Xbox Series S, resolution ranges from 1080p to 1440p. In some aspects, the Xbox Series X|S version of Fallout 4 is inferior to the release on the One X, especially in terms of drawing distance. On PS5, shadow quality is similar to the PS4 Pro version.
