South Korean publisher Nexon has presented its financial report for the first quarter of 2024, in which it commented on the performance of the conditionally free-to-play shooter The Finals from Embark Studios.
The publisher said that the shooter performed below expectations for the first three months of 2024. Nexon noted that The Finals' second season, which launched in mid-March, temporarily increased the player base but did not generate significant revenue.
Nexon also expressed dissatisfaction with poor player retention, a metric that demonstrates a game's ability to retain an audience over time. This is usually accomplished through deep rolling, combat passes, and other mechanics. Despite this, Nexon believes The Finals will prove itself in the second quarter of 2024, especially in North America and Europe. At that time, the shooter is set to launch its third season with new content.
The Finals is receiving interim patches with cosmetics, in-game events, and time-based modes in addition to seasonal updates, but it doesn't appear to be enough to keep the audience engaged for long.
