Nicolas Cage has been cast as Count Dracula in Universal Monsters' new film Renfield. This was reported to our portal by THR .
Nicholas Hoult (Deadpool 2, Dark Phoenix) will also play the sidekick and henchman in the 1897 gothic horror novel Dracula. His name is Renfield and he was an asylum patient obsessed with drinking blood in order to become immortal. Soon he falls under the wing of Dracula, he is fed animals and guaranteed eternal life in exchange for his loyalty and obedience.
The report released by THR does not provide specific details on what the relationship is between Cage's Dracula and Holt's Renfield, but the overall tone of the project is described as "comic".
The film was directed by Chris McKay (Future War for Amazon, The Lego Batman Movie 2017). Rick and Morty co-writer Ryan Ridley is writing the screenplay based on an original story by Robert Kirkman, co-creator of The Walking Dead comics.
In many ways, it's like the culmination of Cage's crazy roles, from the filicide father in "Mad Parents" to, quite aptly, the guy who thinks he's turning into a vampire in the 1989 comedy-horror Kiss of the Vampire.
