Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, being developed by MachineGames, the team known for the Wolfenstein series, is moving away from violent shooters to clever puzzles and stealth to appeal to a wider audience. In an interview for the Official Xbox Podcast, game director Jerk Gustafsson emphasized that the new Indiana Jones game aims to be a true adventure game, different from MachineGames' previous hardcore shooters. In it, players will most often use stealth and solve puzzles, and encounters with enemies will preferably be resolved without the use of firearms.

The focus is on maintaining the authenticity of the Indiana Jones character as an ordinary man with his flaws and mistakes, who relies on his intelligence and wit rather than forceful methods. The gameplay promises to convey weight and grit in every action of the protagonist, who is both athletic and a skilled fighter.

The developers also discussed various aspects of the game, including diverse locations such as college, the Himalayas, Egypt, Thailand, and the Vatican, the return of classic characters, working with Lucasfilm to achieve a high level of authenticity, and Troy Baker's role in bringing Indiana Jones to life.
