It is being reported online that the European Union may impose sanctions on Apple, which is considered to be in violation of DMA laws. If confirmed, the Californian brand will have to pay $1 billion a day.
The reason for the fines is considered to be Apple's refusal to allow third-party companies to add alternative ways to pay for App Store purchases outside of the store itself. The relevant law has been in force in the EU since the beginning of 2024, and its violation obliges the offending brands to pay 5% of their revenue every day.
Apple itself has not yet commented on the allegations.
