Lionsgate and Gearbox's film adaptation of Borderlands has been given a PG-13 age rating, which means that children under the age of 13 are only allowed to see the movie if a parent is present. This rating came as a surprise to many, as the Borderlands series of games had an M rating, which means suitable for those over the age of 17.

The movie Borderlands was rated PG-13 due to violent scenes, foul language and obscene material. While the games received adult ratings due to the presence of blood, violence, sexual themes and other content.

The plot of the movie revolves around Lilith, one of the most famous bounty hunters in the universe, who sets out to find the daughter of a powerful bandit on her home planet of Pandora. During her quest, she teams up with other adventurers to battle an alien race, brutal hunters and uncover the planet's terrible secrets to save the world from impending evil.

The movie Borderlands starred Cate Blanchett (Lilith), Kevin Hart (Roland), Jamie Lee Curtis (Tannis), Ariana Greenblatt (Tiny Tina), Florian Munteanu (Krieg) and Gina Gershon (Moxie) in the lead roles, and the ironman was voiced by Jack Black.
