Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have announced that the free-to-play mobile RPG Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will be shutting down on October 21, 2024, a little over a year after its original release.
Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is no longer available for download from Google Play or the App Store, having been removed from those platforms on July 22. In-game purchases will remain available until August 23. In a farewell message, the developers expressed their gratitude for the support of the dedicated Mortal Kombat community and the honor of working on this project.
Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a gacha game with real-time team combat. At launch, the developers boasted of a cinematic story and console-quality in-game cutscenes.
The closure of the mobile version of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught comes shortly after rumors of the closure of NetherRealm Studios' mobile division. According to media reports, about 50 employees were laid off as a result of the cuts, but the company itself has not yet confirmed this information.
The company will undertake the liquidation of a legal entity within the country.
