The creators of Dragon Age: The Veilguard talked about the role of companions in the game's plot.

According to BioWare representatives, as in all other games of the company, the hero's companions will be very important for the lore. In addition, they will play an important role in battles, and without their help we simply will not pass many battles. At the same time, in order to make companions effective, players will have to put in a lot of effort: find them suitable equipment and gain a lot of experience.
