Walkthrough The Rise of the Golden Idol

Case 1. Strangulation. Bloody path to salvation

Inspection

The guy on the right says something strange: " Prom , napol , prom ." He has a chewed up piece of fabric ( a strap , which gives the word "tourniquet").

The guy on the floor is yelling "Help!" It's more interesting with him, because he has:

·         A pack of cigarettes "Sweet pines" (gives the words "sweet" and " pines " respectively )

·         Keychain with keys ( key )

·         Name tag of Morgue Brakka . Besides the name itself, this tag gives the words asylum , prison , hotel

·         Some list of names

Let's look at the list of names. The title is: "Patients in Special Care Unit C, April 1976."

The list includes the following patients:

·         200. Alexander Jensen. Veteran of the Pacific War (here we mean the Pacific theater of World War II, 1941-1944)

·         201. Camera free

·         202. Oriel Toussaint . Professor of the history of ancient Lemuria.

·         203. Camera free

·         204. Camera free

·         205. Mason Turner . Accountant , serial killer

·         206. Ivy Hayes . Beauty salon manager .

To the left of the man on the floor lies a rubber baton .

To the right of it lies a straitjacket , which also spells out the words Red Wood (literally “Red Wood”, but this is the name of the establishment, so the translation option is “Scarlet Grove”).

Exercise

In this case we need to identify the characters and fill out the conclusion:

__ (here is a person's characteristic or occupation) __ __ (name and surname) killed __ __ (name, surname) with the help of __ (what?) from __ (what?) in __ __ (two slots for a proper name) __ (noun).

Hints

1.       First of all, it would be nice to understand where we are. For example, what are the conditions in which patients are usually kept in hospitals? The cells are kind of strange…

2.       Could this be a prison? But do prisoners dress like this?

3.       It is not difficult to establish the identity of the victim and his occupation, since he has a list of patients, and there is a certain object lying nearby.

4.       But who attacked this guy? Firstly, the numbers on the walls can be used to figure out which cell the action is taking place in. Secondly, the attacker is screaming in a very strange language, which is probably known only to a specialist.

5.       The murder weapon is clear, but where did it come from? This noose is clearly chewed…

Solution

So, the crazy Professor Toussaint bit off the noose from his own straitjacket, and when the guard was leaving his cell, he suddenly attacked him from behind.

01

Conclusion

You've solved the case! Professor of Ancient Lemurian History , Oriel Toussaint bit through the strap of his straitjacket and suddenly strangled the nurse, Morgue Bracca .

Interlude 1

·         Lazarus Hearst was the leader of the Puritan Order Party…

·         ...which ruled Albion (meaning Great Britain) from 1792 to 1795.

·         Some believe that he used the "Golden Idol" - a magical artifact - to seize power.

·         However, in our time it is already reliably known that this is just a myth.

Chapter 1: The Curse

In this chapter, a vague threat looms over the city of New Wells...

Case 1. Academic significance. The death of a genius mind

Sacrifice

Let's examine the person lying down (it looks like a man). He's not breathing. We are given the following phrases:

·         Slipped on ( slipped on something)

·         Went for (went for something)

·         Fell from (fell from somewhere)

·         Collided with (came across something)

He has with him: a red pen, a note, a lighter, a key, a pack of Brigantine Blue Blend cigarettes (he says cigarettes) and some kind of bag.

Let's look at the note lying on the ground. It says the following:

Sir, what title do you prefer for the graduation speech at Imperial University?

Disadvantages of Nowak's algorithms (gives the surname Nowak )

Note in red ink: I do not intend to criticize my own work in my commencement speech (written in red ink)

In the age of computerization, mathematics is a new frontier

Note in red ink : Not perfect, but it'll do (written in red ink)

Let's examine the contents of the lying man's bag. There are some notes here:

·         John Robkin 391 Pine St. East Lake

·         Thomas Crowe ( Tomas Crow ). 128, Darkwood Avenue, King's Court

·         Caleb Reynolds ( Caleb Reynolds ). East Lake Mansion, 714 Anselma St.

Standing by the car

Now the lady is at the car. She says, "Oh my God. Is he dead, Cyril ? " She has a wedding ring and a note. The text of the note :

Dear Debra , I 'm sorry to hear that Brandon's exam results were unsatisfactory. It seems your son is taking after his father. I warned you about marrying into that family. Mother.

Now the guy is wearing glasses. He says, "I don't know! Oh, what are we going to do?" He has a ring , a car key , and a driver's license from 1970, issued to someone named Bagman .

This couple is standing near a car whose engine is running.

House

Let's look at the house in the distance. There is a sign on it: "Western Bridge , No. 1. Property of Sir Isaac . "

If you click on the door, we will see a note near the phone in the house. The text of the note:

Have a taxi called at 6 p.m. I have an appointment at 45c Stockyard Street . Signed: I. N.

Clicking on the stairs near the bridge gives the word "steps" . It also pops up a description that they are covered in ice and snow.

Next to the bridge, by the stairs, there is a machine with the sign “Cigarettes” (different buttons apparently mean different brands).

Exercise

We need to identify three heroes and write a conclusion.

__ __ and __ __ (names and surnames here) discovered the body of __ __ (name, surname), which was there because he/she __ (verb phrase) __ (noun).

Hints

1.       The easiest is with a couple by a car. They have wedding rings with them, and their last name can be read on their documents.

2.       Who fell off the bridge? What algorithms are mentioned in the note?

3.       Whose house is in the background? There's a note on the table there...

4.       The most interesting thing is - what did this man die of? Could he have fallen down the steps? But if he fell down them, then for some reason he needed to climb them?

5.       Did he even climb those steps? What about the tracks?

6.       There is a cigarette machine up there, but is this machine suitable for the deceased? That is, will he buy such cigarettes?

7.       Don't you think the bridge railings are strange?

Solution

The Bagmans found Professor Novak lying in the middle of the road, who had obviously fallen off a bridge – that’s why there’s no snow on the railings in one place. He didn’t fall off the steps simply because he didn’t climb them, because the machine doesn’t sell the cigarettes that the professor smokes. He’s a wealthy man, and he probably smokes something decent – you can’t buy that from a vending machine.

02

Afterword

After the case was resolved, we see a letter:

Thank you for your assistance. We will be happy to pay for Brandon's tuition as long as our agreement remains in effect.

We expect you to remain confidential as to the reason for the decision to pay for Brandon.

Any breach of the agreement will result in immediate termination of funding.

Sincerely, Rare Talents Foundation

Case 2. Work in progress. Horrible death of a "blue collar"

Reporter

Let's take a look at the reporter. She says:

...which led to the death of Foreman Joel Gregson ( Joel Gregson ). A very sad event indeed! Miranda Meadows was with you . Medows ), New Wells Regional Television. I'll hand the floor over to our studio.

Men

Now the guy in the jacket and hat. He says, "So you're saying the machine hasn't worked since July 10th? Let me write that down, Mr. Jenkins . "

He carries a badge with the name of Inspector Roy Samson ( Roy Samson ), as well as a notebook entitled “Notes from the 1977 case.”

The worker next to the man in the suit says, "Listen, my car hasn't worked since yesterday. I've already contacted the maintenance team. You can ask at the main office."

Then there's the skinny worker in the bottom left corner of the screen. He says, "Yeah, **** happens , Monty . **** happens."

Now the plump worker to his right. He says, "Damn, damn, damn! And we missed the game of Pale (it's unclear what game it is - probably fictional), Ted ! It was all for nothing!"

A man on a ladder next to a pipe. He says, “Hey, Roy . Come here quick! There’s another fresh body! There’s something wrong with him!” He’s carrying a badge with the name of Inspector Ian Worth . Worth ) and pistol ( gun ).

Pipe

Now a pipe sticking out of the ground. There's a corpse in it, on the body is an old military dog tag with the name Luke Brown with some number and the mark A+. Also a wad of paper with the text:

There's easy work to be had in the Old Docks. Ask the locals where to find Hunter Wolfe ( Hunter Wolf , literally something like “hunting wolf” ) . Benny Crystal

Body

Now a body, crushed by something. This worker is not breathing, he has a note:

Brigadier,

Okay, you and the boys can leave your shift early today to watch a game of Pile . But first, you need to finish dismantling the old sewage pipes in the pit .

Here are the tasks for next Monday (July 14):

·         Werter should start digging up old electric cables cables )

·         Totsky should finally tear down that red garage . building )

Cars

Let's take a look at the excavator. There's a photo of a guy with a fish hanging there.

Now a red car with a wrecking ball. There's a note there:

Labor protection rules

When operating a Grade II heavy equipment (such as a demolisher , excavator or cutter ) , you must:

·         Check the machine status indicators

·         Report any problems to the maintenance team

A green machine with a huge saw. There's a cup with the inscription "To the best Bill".

Exercise

We need to identify the characters, sign each machine, which worker controls what, and write a conclusion.

__ __ used __ (answers the question “what?”) on __ __. This resulted in the death of __ __.

After this, the body of __ __ was unexpectedly discovered.

Hints

1.       Let's clarify right away that a "blue collar" is a person engaged in unskilled labor (worker, builder, plumber)

2.       It won't be difficult to establish the identities of the inspectors, the reporter and the deceased.

3.       Who was operating the excavator? Actually, we see a photo of this worker there, and we know his name for sure.

4.       Besides, we know that someone's car was broken yesterday. We just need to figure out which of the three cars is broken.

5.       Note that there is a mug belonging to a certain Bill in the cutter. By connecting these facts, it is easy to understand who was operating the cutter.

6.       The demolition vehicle remains. From the foreman's assignments, we know who is supposed to demolish the building on Monday.

7.       Now it's more interesting - what did the foreman die of? Well, he was clearly crushed...

8.       But why did the pipe fall on the foreman in the first place? Could it have been cut by a cutter?

9.       There are some strange tracks leading into the pit...

10.   What is that strange dent on that pipe?

11.   Why does one of the workers say that it was all in vain? Who exactly says this?

Solution

The workers at the construction site were rushing to finish the day in time for the game. However, the boss demanded that they remove an old sewer pipe. The problem was that the cutter had broken down, so the guys came up with a brilliant solution - to hit it with a huge wrecking ball. However, in his haste, Monty didn't notice that his foreman was standing right in front of the pipe, so the piece that flew out landed right on Joel . Well, and suddenly another corpse was found in the pipe.

03

Conclusion

You've solved the case! Foreman Joel was tasked with removing a sewer pipe, but a broken cutter ruined his plans. Not wanting to miss a game of Pale , the foreman asked Monty to solve the problem with a demolition tool. As a result, Joel was crushed by the pipe. During the investigation, the police found another fresh body in the sewer pipe.

Afterword

We see some kind of paper airplane where it is written:

You saw his body. It would be a shame if it turned out that the man who inspired the whole world was just a junkie, like some tramp. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. However, there are those who might spill the beans. I advise you to talk to the commissioner.

Case 3. Emergency message

Inspection

Case "Breaking News: Unexpected Statement from a Sinister Cult."

Tribune

Let's look at the mustachioed guy in the blue cap and glasses. He says: "These are the two topics we wanted to cover today. I can spare you five minutes and answer a couple of questions." He has a note with him:

Press conference at 13:00, December 7. They are expecting information on:

·         Resonance of the case

·         A series of deaths of homeless people

People at the podium

Now the veiled woman is to the right of the bespectacled man. She says, “Thanks for joining us, Jack. It’s good to see a familiar face. These vultures are here to destroy my father’s reputation. I’ve convinced the police to release the body today so we can prepare for the funeral. Unfortunately, it will be a closed-casket ceremony. The fall has disfigured his face.”

She has a note with her:

To the rest of the senior management,

I thank you for offering to take time off to grieve, but we must prove that the Foundation for International Knowledge can function without its founder. So I will continue to lead it.

Work on all projects of the foundation (listed below) must continue without delay:

·         Light of the Third World

·         Interconnected Wisdom

·         Rare Talents Fund

Signature: Executive Director E.N.

Now the man with glasses is to the right of the woman in the veil. He says, "I know we haven't been close lately, but I had to come and support my cousin. Don't worry about the closed casket. Your father was the greatest scientist of the century, and I'm sure his legacy will live on."

Men on the left

Then there's the guy in the hat in the lower left corner. He says, "It's all good. It looks like District 9 needs some help, so I got promoted to head of homicide there. Besides, if there's some kind of drug cult involved, it's clearly outside my jurisdiction."

He has a badge with the name of Inspector Roy Samson and a note:

Roy,

Go to Sebastian's office immediately and bring documents on the following matters:

·         Possum 13

·         Beetle 4

·         Puma 9

Now the guy to the right of the inspector is wearing a hat. He says, "Roy, what the hell? I thought you called this conference today. So what's old Seb up on the podium for, talking nonsense? Have you been removed from this case? And who the hell are these 'demon drug cult experts'? I've never heard of them."

Camera

Now let's look at the TV camera. There's a lot here, let's go from left to right by the columns:

Will the family press charges against the municipality?

I am grateful to our police . It is one of our few institutions free from corruption . As the commissioner said, the death was only a tragic accident .

Why are the police saying that the "Red Curse" is the cause of all these homeless deaths ? Is there really a demon cult out there ?

This is only a conditional name. However, we have significant suspicions that the deaths are related to a drug cult of demon worshipers ( drug - drug). Therefore, it is planned to involve experts in this field from another state.

Are you considering any other explanations besides a drug connection? For example, deliberate telepathic murder ?

We deal with true crime, sir, not fiction. Next question, please!

Window on the left

Now the window on the left side of the building. There are corpses here. Let's examine the corpses clockwise, starting from the bottom left:

·         Tiger 98

·         Gecko 71

·         Monkey 34

·         Beetle 4

Above the corpses is a note with the following columns:

·         Autopsy table

·         Cause of death

·         Date of body release

The table contains the following rows:

·         A. Severe blood loss caused by gunshot wounds, murder . December 11, 1977

·         B. Unknown, related to Puma 9? December 7, 1977

·         C. Blunt force trauma to the back of the head. January 1, 1978

·         D. Rope strangulation, suicide ? TBC (may mean date not yet determined)

Window above

Now the window above, the office. Let's look at the trash can on the left - there's a photo there, the face is partially hidden.

The desk drawer is on the left. There's someone's business here:

·         Case name: Puma 9

·         Case of the Red Curse

·         Opened: July 11, 1977

·         Hosted by: Roy Samson

·         First victim: Luke Brown

Possible witnesses/suspects:

·         Benny Crystal (friend?)

·         Hunter Wolfe (work?)

The document is on the table on the left, near the lamp.

·         Case Title: Possum 13

·         It's a small channel

·         Opened: December 1, 1977

·         Hosted by: Roy Samson

·         Deceased: Homeless man temporarily going by the name "Dirty William "

·         Found in a container in the Old Docks on Stockyard Street .

·         The cause of death has not been determined, but the case is clearly connected to Puma 9.

Now the computer. On the screen it says:

Welcome to the Interconnected Wisdom Network. Please enter your query:

-> computer let me go

Unknown command. Please enter your query:

->

There is a note attached to the computer. Among other things, it gives the word position :

Dear Mr. Walsh ,

Congratulations on becoming the newest member of the board of Interconnected Wisdom. The next board meeting will be in June, after which you will receive six months' compensation. In the meantime, please accept the latest model DAK II computer as a token of our appreciation.

The case is on the right side of the computer

·         Case Title: CASE CLOSED

·         Opened: December 4, 1977

·         Hosted by: Roy Samson

·         Deceased: Sir Isaac Novak, world-renowned scientist and philanthropist

Living relatives:

·         Elizabeth Novak (daughter)

·         Adam Novak (younger brother)

·         Jack Novak (nephew)

There is also a flag of the Union States of Hesperia in the office .

Exercise

Not only do you need to identify the heroes, but you also need to fill out several documents.

First, the press conference (that's where the guy with glasses is):

During the conference __ __ stated:

The case __ was __ __ (by what?)

Case __ has a strong __ __

Next, the victim (photo of a man with hidden eyes):

This is a photograph of __ __ from case __.

His body is lying on the table __ (letter here).

His death is related to __ __.

And conclusion:

New Wells police held a press conference to announce that __ __ was the victim of __ __.

But before the conference __ __ (name-surname) __ (verb or phrase with a verb) __ __ (name-surname) __ __ (the last two words answer the question “what?”) and a computer.

As a result, during the conference __ __ stated that __ __ had become a victim of __ __.

Hints

1.       We already know the inspectors

2.       Where exactly is all this action taking place? Who gathered the journalists here?

3.       One of the inspectors is clearly puzzled by what is happening - he does not understand why another person has climbed up to the podium and (in his words) is talking nonsense. Does this mean that someone else should have spoken?

4.       Who is this gloomy couple at the podium? The woman is talking about her father, and she herself has a very interesting document with initials that could be of great help.

5.       And who is on the right of the woman? Note that he uses the word "cousin" here, not to mean "brother."

6.       Now another mystery: why was there a computer and a note about some management position in a company in an office with a bunch of police files? Does it mean that the owner of this office also became a board member of some company?

7.       And who owns the office with the computer? It seems to be someone who has a fairly high rank. But why was such a strange request entered into the computer, as if the owner does not know how to use this devil-machine?

8.       Once you figure out whose office it is, you need to answer a simple question: why would anyone give this person a computer, and how did it happen that the inspector in charge of the case was suddenly transferred to another department literally half an hour before the conference?

9.       Remember that we never saw the face of the professor who fell from the bridge. The coffin at the ceremony will also be closed, and the note-plane (after the second case) mentions that someone saw the body. So what if they saw it? What could be so terrible there?

10.   And then the next question: why is part of the face hidden in the photo in the trash can? By the way, how did this photo end up there and why?

11.   Now recall one of the corpses in the second case. As the inspector put it, the corpse was, to put it mildly, strange.

12.   Where the professor's body lies can be determined by the process of elimination. Well, for example, identifying the body of a person who was shot would not be difficult.

13.   The professor's daughter talks about his reputation - she clearly doesn't want any fact to come to light.

Solution

So, the situation is not pretty. There is some kind of demon cult in the city , who have a great respect for drugs. The police also found the body of one Luke Brown, a man of not the best reputation and, apparently, a junkie. His corpse looked a little too strange, and this condition was dubbed the “Scarlet Curse”, and his case was called Puma 9.

The problem was that the professor who fell from the bridge was also in exactly the same condition. That is why the coffin had to be closed and Novak's daughter did not want anyone to see her dad's body, and the eyes in the professor's photo were hidden. Why? Because there was a strong suspicion that Isaac was also a junkie, overdosed and fell from the bridge. But telling the whole world that a famous professor and the head of a large company was an ordinary junkie was not a good idea, so Elizabeth, who took over the reins, decided to bribe the police commissioner with a solid position. He, without thinking twice , removed the inspector from the case and climbed to the podium himself, declaring that the professor fell from the bridge by accident, and the Scarlet Curse had nothing to do with him. It was for the same reason that Novak's foundation sponsored the Bagmans ' not-so-smart son - they were simply paid to keep quiet, since they also saw the body.

04

Conclusion

On the day of the press conference, Elizabeth Novak met with Police Commissioner Sebastian Walsh and offered him a lucrative position on the board of one of the foundations she headed. In exchange, she demanded that he cover up the facts about her father's death. Sebastian accepted the offer, then quickly transferred Roy Samson to another position and spoke at the press conference himself.

Chapter 1. Afterword

We get some kind of flask with a note:

Summary of evidence

To: Roy Samson

December 6, 1977

Summary of Evidence

Beetle 4 has the same condition as Puma 9 - STRONG (we must understand, strong evidence)

Beetle 4 and Puma 9 have the same cause of death - WEAK

Presence of a foreign substance:

Puma 9 - ZERO

Beetle 4 - ZERO

New Wells Central Forensic Laboratory.

A cloak with notes also appears.

Note on Puma 9.

Places of interest:

Benny's House (380 Lowe Street) - Drug Dealing Office

Three storage facilities in the Old Docks:

·         FARP Storage ( Stockyard 45a) - No entry without a warrant

·         Old Storage ( Stockyard 45b) - closed in 1950, homeless gathering place

·         Steelside Storage ( Stockyard 45c) - completely empty, shows signs of recent cleaning

Important witnesses and suspects:

·         Benny Crystal

Claims that he barely knew Luke Brown and that they were not close.

He suggested contacting Hunter Wolfe, who has a workshop in the Steelside warehouse . He offers odd jobs to people like Luke.

·         Hunter Wolfe

The man was never found. No trace of him in the Steelside vault , or anywhere on the docks.

Chapter 1. The Final Task

We have new words:

Imperial , university , manor , Westbridge , sewage , pipe , construction pit , cult , member , drug , user , Red Curse , accident , murder , suicide , victim , strong , weak , zero , evidence , police station (police department), Benny's place (Benny's house), FARP, old (old), Steelside ( Steelside ), warehouse (storage).

During an incident at a construction site, the body of __ __ was found in __ __ (what?), having been subjected to a strange influence, which the police called __ __.

A year later, the famous scientist __ __ was found dead by a couple __ __.

After someone contacted him/her, __ __ was worried that everyone would think __ __ was __ __ (who?).

A few days later, __ __ offered to finance __ __'s education in exchange for confidentiality regarding the fact that __ __ was , or "had") __ __.

A few hours before the conference, __ __ was offered a deal and he/she accepted .

However, research in the lab found __ __ that none of the victims of __ __ (what?) were __ __ (who?).

Hints

1.       Well, I think everything is clear with the body at the construction site. About the strange condition is also clear.

2.       What kind of scientist he was and who found him is also obvious.

3.       Now let's remember again: who was worried about the reputation of their relative. Why was it necessary to keep secret the fact that the dead professor had wild eyes, like the man who died in the drainpipe?

4.       So, many had suspicions that those who were subjected to the Crimson Curse were just high. But now the question arises: what conclusion came from the lab? What about the substances?

5.       You should also remember what the case of Luke Brown and Isaac Novak was called - this can be established in the third case.

05

Conclusion of the chapter

Shortly before his death, Isaac Novak went to meet someone in __ __.

A few days later, someone associated with __ __ encouraged __ __ to bribe __ __, who stopped the investigation into __ __'s death.

Hints

In fact, the only thing that is not obvious here is where the professor was going on the day of his death. The answer to this question lies either in his documents or in the notes in that case.

Chapter's decision

So, what do we have as a bottom line? Professor Novak, a famous person, for some reason went to a suspicious warehouse where all sorts of scum hang out. In addition, at the time of his death, he was clearly struck by the Scarlet Curse, which led to a simple thought - he was on drugs, and went to the warehouse to get a fix.

Naturally, such a story had to be hushed up, so Elizabeth generously rewarded the Bagmans and the police commissioner. However, a very unexpected answer came from the lab: neither Brown (Puma 9) nor Novak (Bug 4) had any drugs in their systems at all. In other words, the Scarlet Curse was of a different nature…

06

Interlude 2

Yes, I can buy this gilded brass trinket for scrap value. I am prepared to offer you 3 sous (an old French word for a small coin) - believe me, this is a very generous offer.

Chapter 2: Pursuit

This chapter attempts to find the lost power. The action takes place several years before the events of the previous chapter.

Case 1. Garden of Solitude. Rendezvous at the Zen Center

In the garden

Let's examine the granny. She is crying (well, at least tears are clearly visible in her eyes). When you press on her, the words are given:

·         Stolen

·         Property

·         Valuable item ( asset )

·         seizure

·         Someone 's

·         Death

·         Nervous

·         Nervous breakdown ( or “splitting”, “discord”)

She says: "Of course he was always a thief, but was it really necessary to bring it to this? Well, as they say, before every dawn there must be a night."

She also has an OPIG Inc. credit card with her. It says OPIG and branch .

Let's look at the radio on the left. It gives the words: stone ( rock , or rock as a genre of music), carpet ( rug ), hit ( hit ), pulled ( pulled , can also mean "to pull", "to yank out"), kissed ( kiss ), fell ( fell ). The radio is broadcasting:

This wonderful Friday evening you are listening to the program “Psychedelic Rock Hour” on the airwaves of Rock FM.

Bad has just been played Rug called “ She Pulled Back from my Kiss " (She pulled away from my kiss).

This composition gained some popularity at the beginning of the year, but then quickly fell to the very bottom of the charts. Oof !

If we examine some improvised fire, we will see that someone's passport is burning in it.

First floor of the house

Now let's move to the right side and examine the first floor.

When you click on the phone, the buttons “message 1”, “message 2”, “message 3” appear. To the right of it is a notepad with the text “Postpone the other two until September”.

First message:

Hello. This is your “beloved” ex -husband .

You'll be pleased to know that I'm slowly giving up alcohol. So, as part of that process, I'd like to make it up to you.

First of all, I would like to return the artifact from Lanka that I took after the divorce. All I ask in exchange is your forgiveness .

I can drop it off on Friday if you're free. Let me know.

Second message:

This is the lead auditor from OPIG's finance department.

I looked through the latest payment transactions of your fund and I will say frankly: you are simply robbing us ( rob )!

If you do not provide a clear explanation, expect my visit on Friday. I will be forced to confiscate your credit card and all valuables purchased with it.

Third message:

Hello. It's me, your faithful colleague .

Sorry I've been off the radar. I've been laying low at the Dragonfly Inn . I 'll be back on Friday with our new pointy-eared friend.

Don't forget that in this case, unlike the previous seven, I expect different rates. Well, and since we are parting, I will also need the passport we already discussed.

Let's look at the calendar on the wall. It gives a set of numbers. According to the calendar, it is August 1974. Note that in this calendar the first day of the week is Sunday (S) and only then Monday (M). This system is found in some countries - for example, in the USA.

Second floor of the house

Now the second floor. Let's look at the poster on the left by the wall. It's some kind of newspaper clipping:

City newspaper

Harmony Foundation , run by an eccentric historian , has received millions for a project. The nature of the project has not been disclosed.

Let's examine the safe. It gives the words safe and opened . Inside are two strange artifacts.

Now the suitcase is on the floor. Inside are strange artifacts ( artifact ), a towel ( towel ), and a wad of money ( money ) totaling 10,000 (judging by further cases, these are "thalers", although in reality some coins were called that).

Now the open drawer. Gives the words drawer , spray , sprayed . When you click on the spray itself, it gives the words hair and pepper .

Exercise

The first task is an overview .

The events that took place in __ __ (where?) in August __ __ (here you need to write down the number, each digit has its own slot) 1974 led to __ __.

Now the sequence of events.

__ came to __ (who?) to __ (do what?) __ (what?) to __ (what?).

During the meeting, __ suddenly tried to __ (do what?) __ (whom?).

In response __ (who?) __ (verb) __ (whom?) with __ __ and then __ (verb) __.

As a result, __ __ (verb) and __ (verb) __.

Hints

1.       We need to answer four key questions: what happened, when it happened, where exactly it happened, and who it happened to.

2.       First of all, it is worth understanding the current date. The radio and the calendar will help with this, in which, among other things, the phases of the moon are marked. Note that the “light part” of the icon means “shining moon”, so a completely light circle is a full moon.

3.       So, what do we have as a bottom line? Professor Novak, a famous person, for some reason went to a suspicious warehouse where all sorts of scum hang out. In addition, at the time of his death, he was clearly struck by the Crimson Curse, which led to a simple thought - he was on drugs, and went to the warehouse to get a fix. Naturally , such a story had to be hushed up, so Elizabeth generously rewarded the Bagmans and the police commissioner. However, then a very unexpected answer came from the lab: neither Brown (Puma 9) nor Novak (Bug 4) had any drugs in their systems at all. In other words, the Crimson Curse had a different nature...

4.       It's also not hard to establish where we are. Pay attention to the general strange ambience of the house, to whose portrait is on the newspaper clipping...

5.       In addition, the large letters HF (they are simply upside down) are emblazoned above the gates. The H clearly stands for “ harmony ”.

6.       But who exactly came? Could it even be that more than one guest came in one day?

7.       It is unlikely that the ex-husband came. The thing is that he refuses alcohol, and two glasses of wine are visible on the second floor. And it is unlikely that the hostess would feast with her ex-husband.

8.       The auditor is also unlikely. Why treat him? Especially since the credit card is still with the owner.

9.       The fact that it was a colleague is also supported by the towel with a very interesting pattern in the suitcase.

10.   The cause of death is easy to determine if you notice the damage on the second floor and the general mess.

11.   Also, carefully inspect the surroundings of the house.

12.   Why is the rug lying so strangely? And right next to the safe.

13.   What is this green paint everywhere? Is the owner into graffiti? Unlikely.

14.   What color is the hair of the owner in the newspaper clipping?

15.   Why would the owner burn someone's passport? The reason is obviously serious, no one destroys such documents for no reason.

Solution

Well, in this case there was an epic battle, comparable in scale to the duel between the cat Basilio and the fox Alice. A strange female historian who collects some artifacts was visited by her “colleague” and brought another artifact for sale, asking her to also prepare a fake passport for him.

However, having received the payment, he suddenly began to shovel the contents of the owner's safe into his suitcase. She, somewhat surprised by what was happening, sprayed hair spray at the robber, and then pulled the carpet out from under his feet. As a result, the "colleague" flew out of the second-floor balcony, breaking the flimsy railing, and crashed into a stone.

The owner of the house could think of nothing better than to quietly bury her “colleague” in the yard and burn the fake passport.

07

Conclusion

A colleague of a female historian brought her a strange statue, but then began to scoop up other artifacts and put them in his suitcase. Trying to stop the theft, the woman killed her colleague. To cover up the crime, she buried the body and burned a fake passport she had prepared for her colleague.

Afterword

Let's look at the book (it's some kind of encyclopedia) that appeared to the left of the TV.

·         Lazarus Hurst ( Lazarus Hurst ). Lazarus Hurst was the leader of the Puritan Order Party, which ruled Albion from 1792 to 1795. Some believe that he used the “Golden Idol” - a magical artifact - to seize power. However, in our time it is already known for sure that this is just a myth.

·         Golden idol . The Golden Idol is a fictional artifact that, according to legend, originated from ancient Lemuria . Those who continue to believe in this legend make very contradictory statements regarding the purpose of the artifact. One popular theory is that the idol could supposedly grant eternal life (1). However, modern historians (2) believe that this artifact never existed; moreover, scientists have already proven the impossibility of its existence.

Notes in red pen:

1.       Nobody thinks like that anymore.

2.       But not this one (this one?)

Case 2. Behind Bars

The Case "Behind Bars: A Disturbing Incident at Sternwall Prison ".

So, we are indeed in prison. Let's start by looking at the cells from left to right.

First camera

There is a box under the table. It gives the words glue , clay , scissors , sculpture . Inside, there are some abstract sculptures made of paper, wire and clay.

There are drawings on the table

·         Top left - Awareness

·         Top right - End of the soul

·         Lower - Splitting Space

Clicking on the letter gives the proper names Alfred , Beasley , Steven , Aria . The text of the letter:

Dear friend,

You may not have heard that our hero, artist Alfred Beasley , passed away on February 8, 1973.

I hope the prison staff will let you hang this poster in your cell. Let's hope we can find meaning in his paintings for many years to come.

I know you will grieve for Alfred, as I will. As a spiritual person, I believe that the key to salvation from our torment is to remember the date of our loved one's death and to honor his memory every year.

Whatever the outcome, we must speak our deepest feelings out loud without a trace of fear or shame.

Your friend,

Stephen Aria

The note at the bottom right reads: "I hear you! You wretch, you wretch!" (or "wretch", gender unclear).

There is a poster on the wall with some strange drawings and the caption: "Funny cartoons with Alfred Beesley ."

On the shelf above the table is a book called Flowers for Inner Growth (donated by the Harmony Foundation).

Board in the hallway

Let's take a look at the notice board:

·         26 - Pakenham

·         27 - Atli

·         28 - (erased)

·         29 - Beswick

·         30 - Blythe

Rules:

·         No gambling

·         No tobacco

·         No decorations in the cell without permission from the guards

Note: "Henry! This is absurd: in some corridors the cells are numbered from left to right, and in others from right to left. When you put up new signs above the doors, please choose one direction and stick to it!"

Second camera

Under the bed is a box with some sheets and a diary. The diary reads:

While working in the laundry, I heard that Kempton was organizing a new poker tournament. The cost of participation was one bag of tobacco.

DO : Find out how he consistently wins no matter what he bets on. Could be useful as leverage to apply pressure.

Overheard Sainsbury making a delivery next door. Perhaps he was bribed too?

UPDATE : Was it a hacksaw? Based on the last few nights, it sure looks like it. At least based on what I've been able to overhear in the background of this damn soap opera!

There is a bag of tobacco on the shelf above. Clicking on the window gives the words window with bars .

Third chamber

On the floor is a box with marked playing cards, cigars and money.

On the table is a magazine with a TV guide, where the film "Love, Passion and Laundry" is marked, which is on at 9 o'clock in the evening.

Security guards

The guard on the left says, "Not that one, idiot! Start at the end of the hallway. I want every cell searched from top to bottom." This line gives the word "over . " This guard is wearing a badge and a gun.

The guard on the right says, "Yes, Mr. Kendal . Sorry - Mr. Smith told me to start with number 28, but you're the boss here." He has a gun and a letter that gives names and the verb "climbed . " The text of the letter:

My dear Julia , I am incredibly happy in my new job. I so enjoy helping people get on the path to recovery.

In particular, I am helping one prisoner develop his talent for abstract art. One of his first sculptures, made entirely from paper, explores the very fabric of the universe! He is a genius, isn't he? I like to think I did my part by finding him everything he needed at the local craft store.

And recently this same prisoner explained to me that he needed to trim one of his sculptures very precisely, in order to emphasize the fragility of the human spirit. What a visionary! And once again I managed to find the right tool for him - this time in the prison storeroom.

Unfortunately, his superiors don't want to understand that people like him are simply not understood. Especially my boss Patrick, who treats him (and all of us!) just terribly. I hope I never become like that, no matter what rank I reach.

Yours forever,

Percy (kisses!)

In the yard

Now we go down. On the left wall of the building there is a nasty mug painted with the caption "Jeremy has a huge schnozzle" (apparently a hint at a long nose).

Cabinet

Clicking on the window below opens someone's office. There is a board with papers hanging there. One of the documents is clearly a list of prisoners:

·         Jason - racketeering , 15 years (imprisonment, you understand)

·         Robert - premeditated murder , PLS (life imprisonment)

·         Jimmy - kidnapping , 7 years old

·         Arthur - premeditated murder, PLS

·         Daniel - murder ( homicide , here we mean murder in the general sense, possibly unintentional, through negligence, etc.), 20 years

The yellow note says:

It is obvious to me that relying on such two * ** s How You I Not I can - you Not capable guard whole block on one's own after nine evenings . Starting With today's day ( November 15 ) you ALL you will be work on cemetery EVERY NIGHT . And check it out , damn you Damn your fucking ears. I have no idea how you managed to not hear anything!

On the right is a leaflet for a club playing Pale (this game was mentioned earlier): "Tear off the lottery number for a chance to win tickets."

Men in the yard

Now let's look at the squatting men from left to right.

·         The first one says : Just one year and I'll be free as the wind! Soon this torment will be over. He has a note with him: "I hope this will help you forget what you (think) heard. As an additional insurance, I have a small favor to ask: I need something from your work place. Maybe we can discuss it during the next study hour."

·         The second one says: " Hah ! Nyunchik . Looks like you have a new nickname, huh, neighbor?"

·         Third: "How dare he not inform me of his plans?! This *** himself to yourself grave dug . When I'll go out , I his I'll dig it up ." Also is given words under . him strange coin .

·         Fourth: "Try calling me that without a gun in your hand, asshole. See what happens."

Security guard and worker

Let's examine the dog. It has something that looks like a tag with the word Clovis (the dog's name?) written on it.

The guard says, "Not so tough anymore, Atli ? You fucking sissy ." He's got a pistol and a rifle.

Let's examine the place to the right of the guard. Here we see a drainpipe and a dull saw blade . blade ).

Let's look at the grandfather on the right by the fence. He says: "Cleanly cut. Pliers and wire cutters cutters ) should be enough for the repair. Even such a small kit should have such tools." He is holding a pair of pliers and a visitor's pass in the name of Henry Wakefield , issued on November 15, 1973. The reason for the issue is repair work under a contract. He is also carrying a coil of wire and a box marked "property of Sternwall Prison ."

Exercise

We need to understand who is called what and who sat in which cell.

In addition, you need to solve a puzzle with an encrypted message.

Here we are given the words bone , cut , ladder , saw , book , disguise , nose , inside , pie , flower , rope , spine ( a book has a spine) , climb , equals , run , tie .

The secret message was encoded as follows:

_____ (numbers here)

It can be deciphered:

_____ (words here)

Well, and according to tradition, you need to write a conclusion:

__ __, who was in prison for __ (what?), got out of his cell through __ with the help of __, which he received from __ __.

He entered the yard through __ and then climbed over the fence with the help of __, which he received from __ __.

In the end, he __ (did what?) __ the wall by attaching the __ (what?) he got from __ __ to the __ (what?) of his __ (what?).

Solution

Well, a certain murderer named Arthur Blythe did a good job of pretending to be an abstract art lover and fooled a good-natured guard into bringing him escape tools without knowing it. Arthur also got a book from an accomplice on the outside - a saw was hidden in it, and the information about it was cleverly encrypted. In the end, he simply sawed out the bars while some cellmate was watching TV at full volume, and escaped.

08

Conclusion

Arthur Blythe received a saw from a certain Steven Aria, who was outside the prison. Taking advantage of the fact that a television was playing loudly in one of the neighboring cells, and there were too few guards to guard such an area, he sawed through the bars of the window at night and escaped.

Afterword

After the case was decided, the Albion Times of November 16, 1973 appeared. One article stated that a certain team had won the Pyle tournament again with a score of 1-0.

Another says police are hunting the killer of Arthur Blythe, who escaped from Sternwall Prison yesterday . He used to work at the Lemurian History Museum but was jailed for life for the murder of a colleague who caught him stealing and then reselling valuable exhibits.

Case 3. Fiery premiere

Inspection

The case of "Fiery Premiere: The effect of total immersion in a drive-in cinema ".

Booth

Let's look at the booth on the left. Inside is a man who says: "Miss Cunningham will probably fire me if I don't fix this!" This line gives the last name, as well as the words fire ( can also mean "fire" and "fire") and fix ( fix , to fix).

Let's open the red box. There are wire cutters, cut pieces of red wire , a roll of green wire, a screwdriver, and a hammer.

On the wall to the left hangs a poster: "The Neptune Difference . We offer our guests a way to escape from the daily grind with our unique True 3D technology! Immerse yourself in the world of movie magic with Neptute Crystal." It also gives the verbs escape and taken .

Document on the wall on the right:

Troubleshooting guide for your new projector.

1. Check the power supply

2. Check that all internal parts are installed correctly:

·         If the image is too small, check the lens.

·         If there is no image, check the light.

·         If the image is distorted, check the crystal.

3. We do not recommend turning off the projector after the movie has started .

Let's take a look at the projector. Here you can see the lamp (on the left), the lens and the blue crystal .

People on the left

Now let's look at the guy in blue on the left near the booth. He says: "I have nothing to do with it! Someone tore it off me from behind while I was trying to figure out what kind of thing they threw on the back seat!" He has a ticket stub with him.

The lady in red next to me: "I told you it was irresponsible! But who's going to listen to old Beck Mason?" She also has a ticket stub.

Shield

Now the shield is to the right of them. There are several switches here:

·         Main toggle switch

·         Screen

·         Projector

·         Light

Lemmons is everywhere . Note that the dates here are written in the American format, that is, month-day-year.

Clicking on the lock produces the word " broke " and a note that the lock was badly damaged and could not be closed.

Car

Let's examine the burning car. There is some kind of unit with the inscription: "Attention! If the FIRE switch is in the "on" position, it is FORBIDDEN to remove the upper protective cover."

There is a can of blue paint on the back seat of the car. The label says "Caution, flammable." There are also wire cutters.

People in the center

Man in blue: "What the hell? It was just a stupid bet . There was no need to go that far!" He has a ticket and a strange note:

word crossed out between Mike and Jenny (name written in blue ink). Tonight we'll see two words crossed out their word crossed out. Winner: Mike (crossed out twice) Jenny (crossed out once)."

Postscript: "It doesn't count! You still lost!" Gives names and the word to lose .

The woman next to him: "I had no idea this would happen! Who the hell wears something so dangerous? Besides, you said we wouldn't see it, but in the end it went my way! I win ! " She has a ticket and a note. The note says:

Miss Chen!

I hope the suit got to you on time and fits. I'm so jealous that you and Mr. Lendl will be going to Neptune to see it. And I'll have to settle for the most ordinary, boring cinema . P.S. I agree with Mr. Lendl : it can't be that Bert died like that!"

People on the right

Let's take a look at a certain cosplayer in a pirate costume: "Oh my God, Laura - we can't leave! What should we do? What if that car explodes?"

Girl next to me: "I hope we live to see the private screening! I heard Transom and Marini arguing about what would happen to Bertrand, and now I want to see it for myself!"

Car in the distance

Guy driving: "I'm actually Champ . I'm starting to regret signing up for this. You barely reimbursed me for the cost of my Transom suit !" He has his ticket and money.

A strange green weirdo nearby: "Let's go, Chip! The fire was definitely not planned today!" He has a ticket and a large sports bag with a note in it with some detailed plan.

An inspection of the license plate yields the proper name Mr. Vincent .

Second location, big screen

Gives the word screen and a note that the image is heavily distorted.

Second location, poster

Here is the caption: "New summer blockbuster hits theaters May 1st." This is an advertisement for the film Spacestorm. The subtitle: " Porbo joins the battle against the evil Captain!" In addition to proper names, it gives the word block .

Second screen, cars

Let's examine the wrecked car in the center. There's an unconscious man inside. He's bleeding heavily. There's also a collectible figurine and a ticket.

Inspection of the hood gives the words car accident ( car crash ). We also see a note that the side of the car is crumpled due to a strong impact.

Let's look at the pickup. There's a woman inside: "No one... is... allowed to leave." There's a fresh coffee stain on her clothes.

Small building

Inside the brick building there is a popcorn machine and a chair. Let's examine the telephone receiver hanging nearby. Someone is speaking into the receiver: "Sarah? Who stole what there ? Where did you disappear to?"

Let's look at the poster on the wall on the left. It says: "Entry banned for life ( banned )". Under one photo it says " Ogi Tamin ."

Let's look at the document a little to the right, also on the wall. Here are the words (from left to right, top to bottom): Office, me, maintenance, Andy, projector booth, sick (Andy should fill in).

Document on the table to the right of the phone:

·         Costume competition

·         First place: free tickets for a whole month

·         Doug Baxter for his dangerously similar Bertrand. Note: "Clearly better than Parker's."

·         Second place: real popcorn bonanza

·         Annie Kishimoto - this costume really got me hooked!

·         Marini collectible figurine

·         Tom Powers - very scary, sharp teeth ( tooth , tooth). Note: "I think I saw a slightly better version of this character, but that person didn't show up for the contest."

The yellow paper on the right has the logo of the Neptune cinema on it. It says:

Miss Cunningham ,

You were right: that strange woman ( weird lady ) called again. Apparently, it is difficult for her to get her head around the simple fact that she cannot buy everything she wants.

She sent some tough guy to negotiate in person, but I showed him the door , like you said. I told him never to come back, and that we would never sell what makes this place so special.

Exercise

We need to identify the characters, give a name to each costume, and also solve several tasks.

Equipment

Plan

·         Concealing your identity - required __

·         Get into a drive-in theater and drive away - grab enough __

·         Distract the staff - grab __

·         They might search bags, so I'll hide my loot in plain sight - take __

Dispute

__ between Mike and Jenny

Tonight we'll see how __ __ our __. Winner: Mike (crossed out twice) Jenny (crossed out weirdly for some reason?)".

Events

__ __, the owner of __ __, used __ __ to strengthen __. __ sent __ __ to __ it, but it was __ (what was done to it?) in __.

__ __ arrived in __ and __ __ (what?), disguised as __.

Events, part 2

In order to __ (do what?) __ (what?), __ __ (who?) pulled __ off __ __ __ (a noun and two proper names are needed here). As a result, __ (verb) __ (noun), so the visitors tried to __.

Hearing the noise, __ __ looked outside , saw __ (what?) and realized that someone had apparently __ __ (what?). She made __ (what?), trying __ (to do what?) __ (what?).

Solution

So, in a certain Neptune drive-in cinema, a red crystal was used to create the presence effect , which clearly had magical powers. An unknown strange woman tried to buy this crystal , and even sent her man to negotiate, but the owner of the cinema flatly refused to sell such a miracle of technology, and banned the sent thug forever.

Then this thug dressed up as a character from a new movie, cut the wire leading to the projector, and while the employee was fixing the problem, stole a red crystal , repainted it blue and stuffed it into his own costume in place of the tooth. True, at that very moment, some girl stole another cosplayer's helmet to win a stupid bet. She didn't know that this costume was highly flammable, and the can of blue paint that the kidnapper threw into the cosplayer's car added spice. The owner of the cinema tried to block the exit with her car, and ended up causing an accident.
