How to Beat the Prologue in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Lumiere in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is the first location you'll find yourself in at the very beginning of the game. This area is only accessible during the prologue, and you can't return here later. However, there are a few items worth noting that may be useful later on.

At the very beginning of the prologue, as soon as the game starts, grab the flower for Sophie from the bench, then follow Mael across the rooftops. There are no important events along the way, so keep moving forward until Mael asks you to fight. This is mainly to introduce you to the game's combat system, but if you choose not to learn, she'll fight you at full strength. The reward for winning this fight is a lumina flower.

Keep following Mael until you meet Sophie. When you do, go around the counters on the right to find 125 chromium near an old gramophone.

Move on and you will meet the flower girl Tiffany on the way. After talking to her, you will find yourself in a square filled with people, among whom there are several NPCs with whom you can talk. Dialogues with them will not bring tangible bonuses, but will give additional information about the characters and the situation around Sophie and Gustave.

There are several objects worth paying attention to in the square. On the left is a piano that you can play by interacting with it. Gustave and Sophie will play different melodies. Also next to the piano is a bunch of things left by the townspeople. After examining it, you will receive another color of lumina.

On the other side of the square, closer to the beginning, there are wooden pallets that you can climb on. There is 125 chromium on the upper platform.

When you find yourself near the exit from the square, right next to the large statue, pay attention to Sophie's teacher, Richard. He will ask you to give the uniform to his son Jules as a parting gift. Don't miss the opportunity to take this uniform - it will later become available to Gustave in the form of the "Crimson Uniform" suit.

Continue moving forward and, a little later, talk to Eloise. If you manage to destroy the ball in one hit, you will get another color of lumina. To do this, use a fully charged discharge.

Past the flower market, you will reach the artist Nicolas, who will ask you to help him create a painting. This will be a kind of funny duel in which you will need to perfectly dodge attacks. For successfully completing the task, you will receive retouching - a material for redistributing the character's parameters.

Immediately behind the artist, there is an unusual trash can. If you examine it four times, a man from inside will talk to you. He will give you a chroma catalyst, which will allow you to upgrade your weapon to level three.

When you reach a large fountain with horses, you can talk to Mael again. If you go left from the fountain, you will find 125 chromium on a table with flowers.

After the fountain, go right, and to the right of the stage with the performance you will see a mime. If you talk to him, he will immediately attack. The fight with him begins with the mime creating a transparent wall that you need to break through. Then he will attack with quick punches and headbutts. Later, the mime will switch to a series of lightning strikes with a hammer, which will lead to dumbness, after which you will need to stun him with a discharge. For the victory, you will receive the musical recording "Lumiere", which can be listened to in the camp, as well as the achievement "Unusual duel". By the way, you can find this same recording at the very end of the game, when you return to Lumiere. But the rest of the items will be different!

Moving further, you will get to the harbor, and after a cutscene with the Artist and farewell to Sophie, you will find yourself at the Expedition Festival. You will receive the first Festive Token automatically. This is the festival currency that can be spent in the tents on the left.

To collect all three Festive Tokens, you need to answer the questions of Antoine standing in front of the tents. Here are the correct answers:

  • 67 years ago;
  • Zero Expedition;
  • Abilities obtained from using Pictos in battle.

The next token can be obtained by defeating Mael in a duel on the pier on the right. She uses the same moves as in the tutorial, and the number of attempts is unlimited.

When you have all three tokens, go to the tents. In the green tent, Tom will offer you a strange Pictos that can be repaired later. In the red tent, Amandine will offer you a new haircut called "Bun", and in the blue tent, Colette will offer you an old key that will come in handy in Old Lumiere.

Also, don't forget to talk to the boy in the red jacket by the pier. This is Jules, who Richard asked to give the uniform to. Jules insists that you keep the uniform, unlocking a new outfit for Gustave, the "Crimson Uniform".

You will then need to talk to the students to get the journal, and talk to Gustave's sister, Emma, to trigger some cutscenes and complete the prologue in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.
