There are many companions in Baldur's Gate 3 that you can romance with. One of them, in particular, is Shadowheart, the Mistresses of Darkness. Although she hides many secrets, there are clear ways to win her heart. Here's how to romance Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3, as well as any possible setbacks you may encounter. Also, be reminded that this guide contains spoilers.

How to Romance Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

  • You will first encounter Shadowheart aboard the Nautiloid during the game's prologue. Be sure to save her, as this will earn you Favor points.
  • Shadowheart's approval can be obtained fairly easily. Despite being Shar's follower, she actually prefers acts of kindness and compassion, and also uses your tricks to trick her enemies (such as Persuasion and Deceit). She also doesn't get along well with Lae'zel at the beginning, so make sure you respond to certain suggestions appropriately.
  • In the end, Shadowheart will reveal her true nature, as well as what her artifact is for. Even though most people in Faerûn fear Shar, you must remain welcoming and accepting. This will lead to a scene where her past is revealed.

Information about Shadowheart

Every time you have a chance to talk to Shadowheart (she has an exclamation mark on her head, for example), check to see if there are new dialogue options where she will reveal more to you. For example, she tells you that the night orchid is her favorite flower and that she never learned to swim.

The Night Orchid is something you can find in the Cursed Lands during Act 2. Simply search the roads along the cliffs along the northern and central part of the zone. You can give her a flower that she will appreciate. As for swimming, this is related to the love scene, which we will discuss later.

Nightsong Baldur's Gate 3

  • The Nightsong - Shadowheart will be blessed with Selûne's weapons and Shar will leave her. She is a little worried about her faith, although she is more open about your relationship. Choose to continue chasing him.
  • Kill Nightsong - Shadowheart will be blessed by Shar herself. She claims to only love her goddess, although you can tell her that you want to keep building the relationship. You can kiss her
  • Offer the Ball your heart and soul. Characters can worship Shar's statue, which grants them a Necrosis Resistance buff. However, if Shadowheart tries to pray, she won't hear anything. The only other option is a Religion check, which notes that she must only offer her creature to Orb. We have yet to see if the outcome changes after the dungeon is completed.

The Dark Urge

If you chose the Dark Desire origin, if (a) your character didn't kill the priest Isobel, and (b) you fell in love with a companion. The dark urge prompts you to kill them the next time you fall asleep, so be sure to do the following:

  • Attempt to wake your partner and make a Wisdom saving throw of 14.
  • When you are bound, make another 18 Wisdom saving throw. You have a slight advantage, as your lover will believe in you.

Failure to do so will cause you to kill your lover. The next day, your party members will get tired of your bloody rampage. Your character alone will have to fight and destroy all the companions in your camp. It won't be an easy fight and it will most likely lead to a game over. Imagine being hit on the head by Karlach and Laezel while Gale and Will are casting spells at you. So yes, it is imperative that you succeed on those saving throws.

Love Scene

The romance with Shadowheart culminates in Baldur's Gate 3 at the start of Act 3 (that is, after you defeat Ketherik Torm). For the most part, you should rest at your camp a few times. There will be several cutscenes and events, some of which are not actually related to Shadowheart. But soon after, you will learn more about her past because you spared Nightsong.

Shadowheart wants to forget about the time when she was Shar's misguided follower. She invites you to swim with her. Accept the offer and answer: "You are the first." After that, choose the appropriate responses that will lead to skinny dipping and an intimate scene on the beach.
