After the quest "A Guardian's Best Friend" begins and you find yourself in the new area of ​​the Crossroads towards the Highlands, turn east and use the zipline. Before doing so, be sure to destroy some red growths to make your way easier. Near the new Landmark, you will find a passage leading to a gate. As you get closer, you will see the Overseer, which marks the beginning of this quest. As usual, your task will be to find the Essence of the Champion.

You will receive this essence after completing the side quest "Academic Interest" when you find yourself in the backyard of Gaspin's mansion, provided that you have solved the optional puzzle with statues, fire and bars. It is worth noting that after defeating the Champion, you will not only receive the essence, but also gain access to a chest with a unique Field Commander's Helmet.

After obtaining the Essence of the Champion from the Hossberg Marshes, return to the Crossroads and open the gate. You will have an encounter with an elite risen undead, and winning this battle will give you the essence of the risen dead, which is needed to complete the side quest "Source of Corruption". In addition, on the right side there will be a chest in which you can find the unique great axe "Flinging Edge".
