It is not yet clear what function the children serve, whether they increase statistics, appear with your parameters, and so on. After you marry, you need to invite your spouse to the squad. Just talk to him in the castle or town where he/she lives and then ask him to join the group. When they are in the detachment, takeare daily activities. Kill robbers, trade and so on. Everything is as usual! After a short period of time (about 20 minutes or 10 days in the game), you will receive a notification on the screen that your spouse is expecting a child.
