Cate Blanchett to play Lilith in Borderlands movie adaptation

Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will co-star in Eli Roth's film adaptation of Borderlands.

Blanchett, who starred in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Thor: Ragnarok and the 2018 film adaptation of Clock House Mystery, will play Lilith, who is described as "a siren and legendary thief who uses magical powers," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Borderlands fans may know Lilith best as one of the original game's four heroes. But since then, she has often appeared in other games in the series as a non-playable character (Borderlands 2, Pre-Sequel and Borderlands 3).

A film adaptation of Gearbox's post-apocalyptic comedy shooter was first announced back in 2015, but development appears to have been put on hold. However, at the beginning of this year it was announced that Eli Roth, known for the film "Hostel", will become the director. Blanchett's confirmation for the role of Lilith is the first major news about the project.

Eli Roth will direct the film from a script by Craig Mazin (screenwriter of Black?"reality").
