In Russia, game stores will impose a new tax

A Kommersant source reports that the Russian government is considering introducing a new tax aimed at selling digital copies of games on international platforms. We are talking about entertainment on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, from which our government wants to charge an additional 5%.

According to the statement, the funds (in monetary terms, the amount is approximately 10 billion rubles a year) will be directed to the development of the domestic gaming industry. For this, a special fund will be created, which will regulate the distribution and expenditure of budget money.

Representatives of the sites have not yet reacted to this initiative, but, as reporters believe, the service administration will perceive it as an unpleasant, but not critical innovation.
