Microsoft will allow you to convert Xbox discs to digital versions of games

On May 5, Microsoft filed for a patent that is based on a completely new innovative technology. It consists in the ability to convert physical discs with games for Xbox consoles into digital copies using the functionality of an external device.

The latter will use an optical drive, as well as a connection to the same network as the console is connected to. After reading the data on the disk, the platform will provide the user with access to the page with the game in the Xbox Store, which will then need to be downloaded and updated to the current version.

It is not yet clear whether such a step will allow the first attempt to stake out a licensed digital version of the game forever or the user will have to repeat the same procedure every time.
