Blizzard will no longer give characters real names

Will also be renamed gunslinger McCree from Overwatch, who was named after an employee of the company
Blizzard will no longer give characters real names

Jesse McCree, lead level designer at Diablo 4 , is one of several senior Blizzard officials who have been fired from the company following a lawsuit involving "multiple complaints of unlawful harassment and discrimination." Previously, one of the Overwatch characters was named after him, but now, according to Blizzard, he will be renamed. This is due to numerous requests from the community.

The statement says:

Going forward, playable characters will no longer be named after real-life employees, and we will be more thoughtful and selective when adding real-world references in future Overwatch content.

Overwatch isn't the only company game to feature a character named after an employee. After an outcry from World of Warcraft players, the reference to former creative director Alex Afrasiabi was removed. Instead of the quest giver Marshal Afrasiabi, you can now meet Marshal Stonebridge in the game.

In addition, several characters and locations in World of Warcraft have been named after McCree, including Scarlet Lord Jesseria McCree, Jessup McCree, Marshal McCree, and so on. Apparently, they will also be renamed.
