Reconnaissance and strike UAVs will appear on the battlefields of modern ground armored vehicles, greatly expanding the tactical capabilities of players. In addition, dozens of new models of tanks, aircraft, helicopters and ships will be added to the list of military equipment, and battles will unfold on new maps.
Drones are the most important tactical unit in any high-tech army in the world, allowing you to be the first to detect and destroy the enemy. At the same time, drones are vulnerable - as in reality, they are consumables of modern warfare. They can be shot down with small arms, captured by the radar of an anti-aircraft complex and destroyed with a missile. Players in War Thunder will see and feel exactly how drones influence the tactics of tank battles in the 21st century.
Modern light tanks in War Thunder will have the ability to launch light reconnaissance drones. The commander can send it into the sky right during the battle and, switching to it using a special button, control the drone to reconnoiter the location of enemy vehicles. A small reconnaissance UAV has a battery capacity large enough to patrol over the battlefield until the end of the battle - until it is shot down, or the vehicle from which the drone is controlled is destroyed. All UAVs have a "sighting camera" that allows you to view the area of interest from a long distance, and some models are equipped with thermal imaging equipment.
The Age of Drones update also introduces three models of attack drones: the Russian Orion, the Chinese Wing Loong 1, and the American MQ-1 (it can be used in War Thunder while playing as any country except Russia and China). The strike UAV carries anti-tank guided missiles, which can be used to "get" enemies who are sitting in an ambush without endangering the operator. The legendary MQ-1 drone was in service with the US Army from 1994 to 2018, was used in many modern conflicts - from Yugoslavia and Iraq to Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen, and also became the hero of iconic Hollywood films.
Detailed information about other key novelties of the Age of Drones will be published on the official website of the game in the coming weeks.
