Sanctions in action: more consoles sold in 2023 than in the previous year

In 2023, sales of game consoles on the Russian market approximately doubled, according to data from M.Video-Eldorado, Vedomosti reports. During the reporting period, more than 1 million consoles were sold.

The top three revenue generators from console sales include PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, which together accounted for 85% of total revenue. In terms of the number of devices sold, these three brands occupy 35% of the market.

Marketplaces also confirm the growth in console sales. According to Wildberries, approximately half of the annual total volume of devices sold is expected to be sold in November-December.

It is important to note that currently all consoles from major manufacturers are imported into Russia through parallel imports, and there are no official shipments of PlayStation, Xbox, Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch into the country. Physical copies of games are also parallel imported.

Experts suggest that in 2024 the game console market will continue to grow.
