Zack Snyder suffered the second fiasco of his career
Reviewers give negative ratings to the film “Rebel Moon”

On December 15, 2023, the first part of Zack Snyder's space action film entitled "Rebel Moon, Part 1: Child of Fire" was released. Critics complained about the film's disjointed narrative structure, weak plot, bombastic style, and mediocre action. At the time of publication, the film's rating on Rotten Tomatoes was only 28% fresh.

Some of the critics' opinions expressed:

  • “A movie that looks like a million separate storyboards with nothing connected together” - IndieWire;
  • “That even after 20 years of work the film still seems completely pointless is not only disappointing, it is absolutely baffling.” - Daily Telegraph;
  • "There's something insidious about a bad movie where all sorts of crazy things happen. As Admiral Ackbar said [in Star Wars], 'It's a trap.'" - Mashable;
  • "This dreary space opera doesn't go far in terms of nostalgia" - Screen International;
  • "Rebel Moon, while highly watchable, is a film so constructed from spare parts that it may ultimately be intended only for Snyder fanatics." - Variety

The premiere of the first part of “Rebel Moon: Child of Fire” on Netflix is scheduled for December 22, 2023, the second part, entitled “The Giver of Scars,” is expected on April 19, 2024. Zack Snyder conceived the film as the beginning of a trilogy, but after the devastatingreviews about the fate of the second half of the space opera became unclear.

At the moment, Sucker Punch (2011) remains Zack Snyder's most disastrous film. On Rotten Tomatoes it has a score of 22% from press and 47% from audiences. The director is in talks with Warner Bros. about the release of the director's version of the thriller with an adult rating.
