A member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, Andrei Khudoleev, expressed concern about the Elvish language, which, according to him, has become a “serious threat” to the country. At the forum “Multinational Youth of the Trans-Urals,” he said that according to the latest population census in Russia, more than 12 thousand people are officially registered who identify themselves as representatives of the “elven people.” Khudoleev expressed concern that teachers report to him about children learning Elvish, and considers this fact a serious problem.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the availability of translations from the Elvish language in Yandex Translator, while many languages of the Russian peoples are not available in this service. Khudoleev is likely referring to the fictional Elvish language created by J. R. R. Tolkien and popular among fans of the books “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit, or There and Back Again,” as well as the corresponding films by Peter Jackson.
