The creators of the film “Cheburashka” are preparing a New Year’s special

The creators of the Russian comedy “Cheburashka” announced the release of a special New Year’s episode called “Cheburashka. Weekend”, which will be released in the Start online cinema on January 1, 2024. This episode was directed by Dmitry Dyachenko, who also directed the full-length version of the film.

The original film "Cheburashka", released on January 1, 2023, tells the story of Gena, an old, sullen gardener working in the arboretum of a small seaside town. A series of events take place in his life, starting with a conflict with the owner of a chocolate factory and a meeting with a long-eared animal that fell from the sky, which over time becomes his friend and receives the name Cheburashka. The film reveals Gena's relationship with his daughter and grandson, as well as their interaction with other residents of the city.

The film “Cheburashka” became the first Russian-made film to attract more than 13 million viewers, and was released in Estonia, despite the initial doubts of the country’s Ministry of Culture. The Estonian authorities decided to show the film, noting its lack of ideological and political load and considering it suitable for family audiences.
