Daily Mail journalists reported on a case in which a Tesla-owned robot injured an engineer at a factory in Texas. This robot, designed to grab and move parts, "grabbed" a man by piercing his back and left arm with metal claws. The engineer's colleagues had to immediately activate an emergency shutdown to save him. The incident occurred in 2021, but information about it has only now come to light thanks to injury reports.
Tesla did not officially report this accident and, according to the Daily Mail, did not disclose several other incidents involving robots “attacking” engineers.
It is noted that in 2022, every 21st employee of the Texas Tesla plant was injured at work, and one of the incidents even resulted in death. This episode was also hidden by the company.
According to one of the lawyers for Tesla workers, the company continues to underreport accidents. Hannah Alexander stressed the importance of reading injury reports with a grain of salt.
In addition to this incident, on November 9, a robot from a sorting center in South Korea killed a man when the machine mistook the man for a box and grabbed him, crushing him to death.
