Netflix has announced a change of showrunner for the One Piece series: the second season will be handled by Joe Trach, who previously worked on the Percy Jackson series for Disney Plus.
Trach replaces Steve Maeda, who oversaw the creation of the first season of One Piece and will remain as executive producer. In addition, Matt Owens, who was also the showrunner of the first season, will be working on the new season.
According to Deadline, the second season is scheduled to begin filming in June 2024 and is expected to premiere in 2025. The delay in the production of the second season of One Piece was caused by the Writers Guild of America strike. Although Netflix renewed the series for a second season back in the fall of 2023, the completion of the script is apparently only happening now.
As of now, the series' creative team has not revealed how many seasons are planned for the full adaptation of the original manga.
