Michael McIntyre, game director of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, and BioJade creative director Adam Granger shared information about the project on Ubisoft's official blog. The developers said that a small version of the game is already ready.
The game's team of creators describes their approach to development as four principles, "sanctify, respect, modernize, add." These principles apply to all aspects of the project. For example, when working on enemies from the original, the team decides to leave them unchanged ("sanctify"), make minor adjustments ("respect"), make them more modern ("modernize"), or replace them with new ones ("add").
Some iconic elements, such as wall running and the Prince's dagger, will remain unchanged. Other aspects, such as level design and the combat system, will be modernized: the world will become more expansive and battles with enemies will become more challenging. McIntyre cites the example of games in the Dark Souls and God of War series, which offered players serious challenges and made battles more intense. However, some of Prince's combat mechanics will remain unchanged.
Azad's Castle will be presented in brighter colors. In the original, technical limitations prevented the full scale of the palace from being shown, but now players will see it in all its glory. For example, they will be able to view the distant landscapes surrounding the castle and experience the heights that were previously hidden due to technical difficulties.
The plot of the game as a whole will not be changed much, but some episodes will be expanded. In the original, the Prince and Farah didn't interact much. The developers have decided to deepen their interaction so that the characters spend more time together. Farah will get more depth and development.
The developers are consulting with experts on Persian culture. This will affect the visual style, environment design, character dialogs and other aspects.
