Resident Evil 9 is rumored to be scheduled for release in late 2025 or early 2026.
The main characters will be Leon and Jill. The game will be from the 3rd person without open world.
The other day information from a German insider about Resident Evil 9 became available. This insider, known as Andy from Screenfire Germany, has previously revealed information about Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica remakes long before Dusk Golem and IGN. His source is supposedly a Capcom employee he met at a Gamescom event.
Here's what he shared during one of his streams:
- Leon and Jill will take the main roles in the game, not just Leon;
- Jill will likely be Leon's partner, similar to Sheva for Chris in Resident Evil 5;
- The game will not be completely open-world, but it will have open-world elements like Resident Evil: Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake;
- The game was originally planned as a co-op game, but after the success of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil: Village, Capcom likely scaled back the co-op aspect;
- Capcom considered removing Jill to focus only on Leone and the single-player game, but decided to keep her;
- If the game will still have co-op, it is unknown how it will be implemented;
- The game's secondary characters are not yet known, but it will probably be Barry for Jill and Ada for Leon;
- The story will not focus on Blue Umbrella or BSAA from Resident Evil: Village;
- The game will be third-person, possibly with the addition of first-person video later on;
- Enemies will be fast and aggressive zombies;
- Aside from Chris, Jill, Leon and Claire, all other characters may be killed off as the story progresses;
- Resident Evil 5 Remake and Resident Evil 6 Remake have been delayed or canceled;
- Game directors are not limited to previous storylines, and can use any characters and stories;
- Sheva or Helena's appearance is unlikely to be repeated.
