Director Robert Kirkman spoke about the reasons for the success of the series The Walking Dead.

According to the creator of the show, the project turned out so well because the authors were given a lot of freedom of action. At the time of the start of production, not only the AMC channel wanted to take on the series, but also its competitors in the form of HBO. Accordingly, AMC had to offer the team more advantages and privileges in order to earn the right to publish the new product.

As a result, Kirkman received the right not only to work on the script, but also to personally select the actors. We all know what came of it.
