The New Game+ mode in Elden Ring uses the same mechanics as the Dark Souls series, allowing gamers to play the game multiple times using the same character.
During a recent broadcast of the Taipei Game Show, game producer Yasuhiro Kitao said:
After beating the game for the first time, you will be able to transfer your character data and play again against enhanced enemies. It's a feature of all our games... In fact, with such a huge world, the game is designed to be played without fully exploring it. Some players will choose to fully explore the entire map, while others will leave some areas to explore during the second or subsequent cycle.
In addition to exploring the regions you missed on your first playthrough, New Game+ allows you to experiment with builds, weapons, and playstyles using the items collected in the first cycle. Previous FromSoftware games worked the same way, allowing you to carry over everything except the story-related progression items. Elden Ring will also allow you to save all equipment and spells. As Kitao says, "with each playthrough, the enemies get stronger and stronger."
Asked if it's possible to complete the game in 100% in one playthrough, Kitao explained that "it's technically not possible as there will be branchings towards the end, but you can certainly get as close to that number as possible". It is possible that Kitao is referring to multiple Elden Ring endings, although there may be unique areas and bosses associated with them.
