According to producer Yasuhiro Kitao, Elden Ring is the "perfect" game for people who couldn't handle the difficulties of games like Dark Souls.
In the recent broadcast of the Taipei Games Show, Kitao touched on several details of the game. Among other things, he repeatedly claimed that throughout the development of FromSoftware tried to follow the "principle of reducing player stress".
The sheer scale of the world created its own challenges: players shouldn't be bored, but placing a bunch of enemies all over the place would lead to constant fights, which in itself can create unnecessary stress. The challenge was to position the opponents in a way that would keep the players engaged while still keeping stress levels low.
To cover long distances, players can use a horse. This decision is also driven by the principle of stress reduction.
Ultimately, Kitao stressed that he thinks Elden Ring is ideal for anyone who has been put off by FromSoftware games for fear of being overly difficult.
Franchise director Hidetaka Miyazaki has previously stated that Elden Ring is about as difficult as Dark Souls 3, but easier to deal with, with many different strategies and approaches available to players so they can be as creative as possible.
Elden Ring is scheduled to release on PC, current and previous generation consoles on February 24, 2022. The game has already "gone for gold", which means no more transfers.
