'The Boba Fett Book' Closes Huge Hole in 'The Mandalorian' Plot

The fifth episode of "The Book of Boba Fett" clarifies the burning question of the lore of Star Wars
'The Boba Fett Book' Closes Huge Hole in 'The Mandalorian' Plot

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Episode 5 of The Boba Fett Book! If you have not seen this series yet, we recommend that you refrain from reading the information.

In the fifth episode, The Book of Boba Fett surprisingly lacks Boba Fett himself, but the audience returns to the world of The Mandalorian.

The last time we were shown Mando, he defeated Moff Gideon, suddenly became the ruler of Mandalore, earning the dark sword in battle, and gave baby Yoda to Luke Skywalker to train him in the arts of the Jedi.

In The Mandalorian season 2 finale, it seemed that Mando's possession of the Darksaber would lead to conflict between him and Bo-Katan Kryze, the weapon's former owner. Bo-Katan wants to rule Mandalore, so she needs the Darkblade. However, when he offers her the blade, she does not accept it.

Thus, a huge plot hole was created: Bo-Katan had previously received the Darksaber from Sabina Wren and accepted this weapon without any problems. If she could do it once, why didn't she do it the second time?

As it turns out, Bo-Katan's tenure as ruler hasn't been smooth sailing, and that may have to do with how she earned her place. As the Armsmaster explains in The Book of Boba Fett, Bo-Katan's reign ended on the Night of a Thousand Tears, when Mandalore was ravaged by the Empire. The gunsmith believes that this is due to the fact that the Dark sword Bo-Katan got as a gift, she did not win it in battle, many lost the Way. Only those Mandalorians who followed the Path survived.

Therefore, it is not surprising that Bo-Katan refused to accept the Dark Sword as a gift. It remains to be seen whether the two Mandalorians will fight over this sword - we will probably find out about it in the third season of the TV show.

In the meantime, The Book of Boba Fett continues to come out weekly, with some viewers speculating that Luke Skywalker and Baby Yoda could be brought back in Episode 6.
