George Martin may be 'shocked' by how his original Elden Ring lore has been twisted

From Software's Hidetaka Miyazaki Says He Turned Martin's Characters Into 'Inhuman Monsters'
George Martin may be 'shocked' by how his original Elden Ring lore has been twisted

Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki shared details of the game and talked about how much his team has changed and distorted the world built by George Martin, who independently shaped the mythical story for Elden Ring. It formed the basis for building the world, but Martin's characters existed before the "split" of the Elden Ring of the same name.

Speaking to GameInformer, Hidetaka said:

Therefore, we were more concerned with how to interpret the moments: why did they become inhuman monsters, how did the insane infection of the broken fragments of the Ring and its power affect them? This is what we were doing. Take great heroes and warp them, twist them, turn them into something they weren't. And I think if we get a chance to show Martin, and if he can see the game and these characters, he might be a little shocked. When he created them, he imagined something more. Created a more traditional human drama with fantasy characters. Hope he enjoys it.

For his part, George R.R. Martin recently stated that he thinks Elden Ring "looks incredible".

Such a statement is quite typical for Miyazaki, who previously designed the gloomy Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro, where he emphasized the transition of the once proud fantasy world to a state of devastation and chaos.

Elden Ring will be released very soon, February 25, 2022.
