The Complex Review - Decisions Have Consequences

The Complex is an interactive sci-fi game created by Wales Interactive, an experienced studio that has released quite a few similar titles over the years. Offhand - The Bunker, Late Shift, The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker and SIMULACRA. Some of the titles have been better received than others, but where did The Complex rank among them?

The Complex is a sci-fi thriller whose story intertwines the activities of a multimillion-dollar research company, military dictators, a top-secret and well-protected laboratory, and a small team of scientists who seek to find a cure that would heal all people from the effects of the London terrorist attack, when a biological weapon was used. . If you look closely, then surely each of you will be able to find in this story something similar to our current situation. Dr. Amy Tenent and Dr. Rhys Wakefield find themselves in a closed lab with Claire. They try to solve the problem on their own, while the larger players look for a way out of the situation through other sources. The main plot is connected to several stories at once, and the decisions you make can change??eat to one of 8 different endings. And everyone who wants to collect as much information as possible about what really happened here should get them.

The role of the main character, Ema Tenent, is played by Michelle Mylett. Kate Dickey played the role of Natalie (the actress should be familiar to you from the Game of Thrones, where she played the crazy Lisa Arryn), Al Weaver - Dr. Rhys Wakefield, Kim Adis - infected Claire, Rachel Petladwala - Emily, Okori Chukwu - Parker Kaplani. The Complex is directed by Paul Rashid and written by Lynn Renee Maxey. The latter has worked with TV shows such as The Handmaid's Tale and Covert Ops.

This is your own adventure movie in which all actions depend on your choice. And Amy will have a lot of controversial situations. Some decisions are basic, such as whether or not to answer a phone, but others are so important that they can affect people's health. In addition to the decisions made, there is a rating of relations with each character. It shows how Amy is treated by individuals, whether they like her or dislike her. These relationships affect both the available options and the possibility of obtaining certain cut-scenes. Each choice has an impact on relationships with people. And not always, it would seem, the right option will lead to their improvement.

In general, the plot is intriguing and keeps you at the monitor screen until the last minute. Fortunately, the game is not so long, but The Complex has a high replay value. Yes, there are decisions or actions that seem inappropriate, but they are of little importance. And some moments, at first seeming superfluous, are perfectly interpreted by the subsequent events of the game.

Each path that you can take to overcome difficult situations fits into the final result (ending) rather succinctly. Yes, some endings may seem strange, because you simply do not understand how Amy could make certain decisions. There are also several unresolved moments when some characters simply lack motivation: it is not entirely clear why they do it this way and not otherwise.

The Complex should be judged in terms of filmmaking rather than video game development. The design and decorations are top notch. The actors are not inferior to them with their game. Does the lab really look like it belongs to some real research company with a lot of money??g and other means. There are times when CGI is used. And such moments stand out against the background of the overall gameplay.

Of course, to some extent it is still a video game. Its main attraction is the ability to unlock multiple endings. Fortunately, when replaying, you won't have to watch all the cut scenes. After the first passage, a function will appear that allows you to skip them. If a scene appears that you have not seen before, then the game simply will not allow you to rewind it!
