Teardown Preview - What Game Is It?

Pixel graphics in three-dimensional space - what you need for a modern "sandbox"

You can't just take and write a review of the game in early access. That is why today I will tell you what Teardown is: I will explain the essence of the gameplay, some mechanics and general impressions about the game. Well, to play this project or not - everyone decides for himself.

On the evening of October 29, 2020, Teardown appeared in Steam Early Access. The approach of the developers is clear - there is really work to be done in the game, and most of the errors are much easier to fix with the help of the players. There are not so many missions available in early access, but I hope the content will increase several times by the official release.

The main and truly alluring mechanics in the game is the relative freedom of action, but as for destruction, absolutely everything can be broken and destroyed here. The exception will be some plot items, metal supports of buildings and massive structures (although many of them can also be destroyed). Also, you can not destroy the earth's surface, but to be honest, I would very much like to!

Initially, a few simple tools are available to the player, such as a sledgehammer, a spray can of paint, and ??Extinguisher. With the help of a sledgehammer, you can easily get rid of wooden and fragile stone structures; spray paint allows you to leave markers on the ground; the fire extinguisher plays an important role in the passage of the Teardown story missions, since if a fire breaks out, there is a big chance to "summon" the cops to the map and fail the missions.

But to create a full-fledged atmosphere of chaos, these items are not enough. For example, the above means do not allow crushing metal. You will have to be patient: a little later you will be provided with a blowtorch that is suitable for cutting these sturdy structures. And if you want to work not with a "scalpel", but with a "hammer", then after completing a few more story missions, you can use a shotgun and even explosives.

Missions in Teardown take place in several large locations. Each map has 3-4 missions. First, you are allowed to get acquainted with the map and its facilities, the location of vehicles, which I will talk about a little later. Tasks are a collection of various items. But it's no longer about the items you need to collect, but how you do it.

Teardown - walkthrough & guide

In some missions, you will have to pave the way and build an entire tactic to collect quest items. This is due to another interesting mechanic - signaling. Usually in such tasks, quest objects are literally tied with a wire to the alarm, and if you pick up an item, a timer is activated. From now on, you will have exactly 60 seconds to collect everything else and escape in transport.

The fun begins already at the stage of building a route from one point to another. You can cut a hole for yourself where it shouldn't even be close. Well, or arrange cars in the necessary places for quick movement. In other tasks, you can use heavy equipment and literally drag quest items closer to the extraction zone to save time when escaping.

As for transport, there is more than enough of it in the game. A variety of cars, heavy equipment and even watercraft allows you to solve some of the inconvenience in??dew on the demolition of buildings, the creation of easy passages and new paths. For example, in one of the missions, you will need to get rid of a large safe by throwing it into the ocean. It is impossible to do this with your hands, since the character simply cannot lift such a weight. But you can load the safe onto a dump truck and send the transport along with the item to the seabed. Or use a mobile crane and throw the safe into the water. The latter, by the way, is much easier.

Teardown looks like a promising project that you can stick to for the whole day and forget about real time. The most important thing that I forgot to mention is that the game does not get bored at all. You can go through the same mission several times, inventing a variety of ways to complete it.
