Nioh 2 walkthrough: 15 things you didn't know about

In our Nioh 2 guide, we'll cover 15 things the game doesn't tell you about! With us, you are guaranteed to improve your skills and simplify the passage of the game.

Choose the weapon with which you will go through the whole game

I agree that Nioh 2 can only be enjoyed by using a variety of weapons. And there are a lot of them here, each is unique in its own way, has pros and cons, a different range of damage, damage, and so on. The situation is similar with three different racks - upper, middle and lower. But! If you choose one specific, then soon you will reap dividends:

  1. To begin with, when using weapons of the same category (for example, axes), you will receive ability points for that particular category. So - soon strengthen all the axes!
  2. Then pay attention to the familiarity scale that each specific weapon (not category) has. The higher the familiarity, the more damage you deal and the more effective the weapon will be overall.
  3. Finally, when putting amrita into certain attributes, note that a weapon of a certain category is assigned to each. Therefore, it will be much more efficient to invest in one category and use weapons of at least this category. For example, I amI went through the game with an ax, invested in stamina (occasionally in strength, addition and skill for using different armor). And I changed weapons exclusively within the same category. In fact, familiarity rises quickly. I also fought in the upper stance, in which the weapon deals maximum damage.

Read enemy descriptions

Nioh 2 contains a huge variety of monsters. Unlike something like Sekiro, almost everyone has magical abilities or unique passive skills. For example, one (Gaki) can eat another, grow and complicate the battle. Each enemy bio (which expands as you kill them) details these mechanics. For example, in the same case with Gaki eating another Gaki, it is said that he can only do this if the second one has completely run out of stamina (ki).

Yokai work differently

The game hints at this a few times, but doesn't go into too much detail. The bottom line is that different enemies react differently to damage. Mortals, humans, recharge ki (stamina) in much the same way as you do. Stamina is regenerated the moment they attack, block your attacks, take hits, and run. Does this mean that you can make the soldiers run after you to get rubbed?or your stamina.

Youkai are different. They differ both from people and among themselves. The only thing that remains unchanged is the way to restore stamina. Yokai do not automatically regenerate ki like humans do. Instead, they perform an action that summons the world of youkai: a terrible dark place. In the world of youkai, they instantly recharge stamina, while in you it starts to grow more slowly. But it is possible to use the ki pulse (R1) to dispel this area of the youkai world.

What the game doesn't explain is that some yokai, especially normal and mini-bosses, have a second bar with stamina. If you completely deplete the ki bar of a normal opponent, then on the next hit, he will fall to the ground. You will be able to run up and perform finishing moves. But in the case of a strong youkai, this will not happen immediately! And you could see it: it seems like he no longer has stamina, but you hit and hit, the yokai does not fall, but instead summons the yokai world.

In fact, ki depletion works differently. Instead, they fall into a stupor. You have a few seconds to deplete the second bar of ki below their normal stamina bar. Only if you empty it, you can use finishing. This requires heavy hitting and anima abilities. Otherwise, you simplyenough time for the second scale.

Divine branch and hara-kiri sword - what's the difference?

There are two items in Nioh 2 that actually allow you to get out of a difficult situation by taking a step back. But you will have to pay for this, because when you activate a branch or a sword, you lose all the accumulated amrita.

However, both items have different functionality. The hara-kiri sword returns you to the last altar, and the branch returns to the game map. That is, in the second case, you will completely leave the mission, after which you can start it from the very beginning. Most likely, the second one will come in handy if you simply cannot kill the boss and decide to go through several side quests to upgrade your hero.

Helmets stop attacks...sometimes

This is one of the easiest tips. A bow or musket allows you to kill many enemies with a single headshot. This is a great way to start a fight against multiple soldiers. However, in some cases one shot will not be enough. All by the fact that helmets block hits to the head. However, this does not happen with all helmets. Hats do nothing to protect enemies. Usually we are talking about heavy metal "helmets". As a rule, they are worn by tall soldiers.

Best for beginnerso Guardian Spirit with Attack Up

At the beginning of the game, you can choose between three guardian spirits. Each has its own passive bonuses to parameters. Anyone will allow you to transform into youkai for a short time. In the end, you will unlock a huge number of new guardians. And it is best to choose a tougher attack-oriented spirit.

Check inventory as often as possible

In Nioh 2, you will have a lot of junk - unnecessary weapons and armor. Many things will actually be useful. It is enough to take the time to carefully study their description. For example, samurai curls give ability points for ninjutsu. You can find out about this from the description, or you might have known if you played the previous game. But for beginners, this moment could be incomprehensible. Thus, study the description of each active item (at least).

Complete missions in the Dojo

Already in the early stages, quests like "The path of ... (for example, a samurai)" will begin to appear in the Dojo. These are small tutorial missions that will introduce you to different weapons, stances and attacks. But do not underestimate these tasks. These missions are very important. As you unlock different skills for a specific weapon category, you'll soon discover tons of new moves and combos. namesbut they will teach you in the game. think of Dojo missions as exams, for which, by the way, a valuable reward is due.

Check Titles

In the end, after completing one of the tasks, you will see a list of your first titles. For their receipt rely special points. Pause and select the section with titles. Spend the accumulated points to receive a wide variety of bonuses.

L2 and R2 have hidden features in the R1 equipment menu

The L2 and R2 buttons in the equipment menu have unique functions. They don't switch you between different elements like other games do. R2 is used to compare two pieces of armor or weapons. And in Nioh 2, the importance of this feature cannot be overestimated. L2 will let you know for the bonuses of specific equipment: what you get if you put on a full set of armor, and so on.

There is nothing wrong with recalling a guardian spirit

This function is on every altar. It allows you to recall the spirit in case of hide's death. In this case, you lose all raw (not delivered to the altar) essences of souls and collected amrita. You don't even have to worry about the latter! Especially if there's a boss fight ahead. Tiny stat boost won't give you meaningful dividendsV. It is much more useful to return the spirit and accumulate a counter to activate the form of youkai.

Choose upgrade elixirs in the Kodama Shrine

Elixirs are good. You need them everywhere. This is the main tool for restoring HP. You can have a maximum of 8 elixirs while the rest goes to the altar storage. But during the fight with the boss, sooner or later you will use up the full supply of elixirs. Therefore, in the Kodama Shrine, it is best to choose a bonus that increases the effectiveness of the use of elixirs. And other elixirs can be bought at the Kodama Bazaar for divine rice, which you get when you donate equipment at the altar (Make an offering).

Endurance requires stamina

Stamina management is the key to most Souls-like games. Nioh 2 is no exception. As well as finishing. If you see a red ring on the enemy, indicating that you can perform a finishing move, but when you click on the "triangle" nothing happens, then most likely the matter is not enough stamina. Instead of panicking and retreating, wait 1-2 seconds for some of the ki to regenerate. And then finish off the enemy.

Draw youkai out of the dark world

Very soon, you will first encounter dark areas in which youkai ?feel much better. At the same time hide's efficiency decreases. That is why it is absolutely not necessary to meddle in such territories. Instead, lure opponents out of them. This will make it much easier to defeat the enemies. And when you kill the right youkai, the entire dark area will disappear (and possibly the remaining enemies will also die).

Carry out counterattacks

Many opponents use powerful attacks, which can be identified by the appearance of red streaks and a corresponding, sharp sound. You can either run away from them or dodge. But it's much better to use a counterattack by pressing both R2 and the "circle" at the same time.
