The Dark Forest is the first region to travel through in the Cult of the Lamb story. Treat it like a big tutorial. In this chapter, we will talk about what are the rooms you get into, the enemies and what it takes to get to the first bishop (main boss), Leshy.
You will enter a dark forested area with a bridge ahead. Cross the bridge and meet four bishops. Just before you are sacrificed, a mysterious chained beast will rescue you. You will be tasked with founding a cult in his name with the goal of destroying four bishops. And then the beast will be freed from the shackles.
The next room contains a group of enemies and explains what you can expect from the dungeons. You will learn how to attack and dodge, the two main aspects of the combat system. Defeat the enemies, cross the bridge and take the path on the right to enter the next area. You will meet Ratau, who will guide you through the next few sections and introduce you to another part of the game that is reminiscent of a village simulator.

Head to the exit at the bottom of the room and defeat the enemies in the next area. Receive a reward from the chest after it appears. Proceed through the next few rooms, killing enemies until you reach the exit roomwith a chest in the center.
After collecting the loot, go through the red doorway at the top of the screen. In the next room, Ratau will meet you in front of an animal about to be sacrificed. You need to destroy waves of enemies to save the poor guy. Once the room is cleared, approach the animal and hold the indicated key to save it. Congratulations, you've just recruited your first follower!
Go to the next room, talk to Ratau and teleport back to your Cult using the pentagram platform on the ground.
Now that you've gotten familiar with the Cult of the Lamb dungeons, it's time to learn how to run the Cult. When you return, Ratau will give you several tasks that you will have to complete on a regular basis in the future.
First, you need to train your first Cult Follower. Walk down and slightly to the right to find the animal that was rescued a few minutes earlier. Approach and interact with him to add him to your nascent Cult. You will be given the option to name it, choose its appearance, and explore predefined traits. Every member of the Cult is completely randomized from now on, so you'll never know who you'll get next.
After adding the first follower, can you?teach him one of two tasks: chop down trees to collect loot, or quarry rocks to collect stone. While you can certainly do all of this on your own, you will soon quickly realize that delegating tasks to your followers is the key to success, especially as the level and scope of the cult grows.
Ratau will ask you to build a fire for food and you need to collect 5 pieces of wood and 2 pieces of stone. Interact with various trees and rocks around to get the necessary materials. After that, approach the "hammer" sign to build a fire for cooking.
You will be taken to a building screen marked with a blue tint and green and red squares under items. As long as the space under the item you are trying to place is green, you can place it on the ground. Anything highlighted in red is prohibited.
You will then need to prepare food for your follower. Collect 6 berries and go to the kitchen fire to make a regular berry bowl.
Your next task is to build the Temple. But first you need to collect some gold, and one of the best ways to do this is with another crusade.
Ratau will ask you to return to the Lands of the Old Faith to collect gold and new Followers for your promising Cult. Head north through the archway to get to the trail?? Here you will find four colored doors. Approach the green door on the left to unlock the Dark Forest. In order to do this, you need one follower (the icon of one praying character on the door).
Once the door is open, head inside to return to the first dungeon. Crusades are procedurally generated, which means that no two layouts will ever be the same. When you arrive here for the first time, you will see a sword on the left side. Pick it up and you'll receive the Crusader Blade I - one of the many weapons you'll use on your journey to defeat the Bishops.
With your weapon equipped, head north to the next area. Because each room is randomized, you never know what you'll find ahead. The most common rooms have enemies to defeat, while other times you'll run into various NPCs that offer useful weapons, items, and even tarot cards to help you along the way.
It's worth noting that most of the decorations in each room (grass, rocks, etc.) are destructible and often contain resources that you can use in your cult's village, so it's worth smashing and slashing literally anything you see. A map will be displayed in the upper right corner of the screen: open rooms will be highlighted in white, special rooms??you - yellow, and unexplored rooms will be marked with a "?". Use this information to find your way out of any area.
At some point, you will encounter Claunek, an NPC with tarot cards. You will be able to choose from two tarot cards that will give you an edge for the rest of your crusade. Keep exploring the various rooms and taking out the enemies until you reach the chest. Take your rewards and go through the doorway.
After leaving the first area, you will see a small road map with a choice of where to go next. Each diamond-shaped box contains an icon that gives you an idea of what you can expect in a particular area. The sword icon, for example, indicates a combat room full of enemies.
Occasionally, you will come across rooms with resource icons such as wood, stone, or food, which contain valuable materials that you can take to your cult. Some rooms are puzzles and are marked with a '?' which contains a variety of different possibilities, from random mini-boss fights to knowledge dumps and more.
Make your way through the next room and you'll be greeted by the final icon, a mini-boss symbol with a yellow border. Each campaign ends with a battle with a mini-boss, which must be defeated in order to return to your Cult with all the trophies collected.
Upon entering the mini-boss room, you will need to fight your way through a series of standard locations filled with enemies and NPCs until you reach the final room. A cutscene will play and the poor animal will turn into the terrifying Amdusias.
This enemy has the same attack patterns as his lesser minions you've encountered so far, and telegraphs his strikes ahead of time by glowing white. Just dodge his attacks.
Aside from the standard lunge attack, the only thing to look out for is the projectile attack. This is signaled by the appearance of small white circles with X marks on the ground, followed by glowing green projectiles erupted by Amdusias.
Just dodge or run away from the target area and use the extra time to land a couple more hits on Amdusias. Once you deplete his health bar, he will turn back into the cute little animal he once was and you can recruit him into your Cult.
After that, you will have a choice between three prizes for defeating the mini-boss. They usually range from decoration blueprints or follower types to resources and more. Take whatever seems appropriate for your needs. There will also be a chest of gold. Take everything and exit through the north gate.
In the last room you will come across a large zap??chatannoy red door. In fact, this is where Leshy, the first bishop, is hiding, but you need to make three more crusades into the Dark Forest. Return to your Cult village using the teleport in the center of the floor.
Return to speak with Ratau and then train a new follower. Ratau will explain that the Followers will either work or worship. It is the lifeblood of your Cult and you need to balance both accordingly in order to grow.
Ratau will ask you to build a Sanctuary that Followers can use to create Devotion through prayer. You will use Devotion as a sort of currency to unlock new buildings in your Cult village.
Once the Temple is built, Ratau will ask you to train a new Follower and order him to pray in the Temple. Once the Follower has accumulated some Devotion, collect it by interacting with your Sanctuary and you will receive Divine Inspiration.
Each time this happens, you can use your Divine inspiration to discover something new for your Cult. You need to build the Temple as it is the only option available. As you get more Divine inspiration, will you unlock different branches of the skill tree??in, corresponding to your overall goals.
Next, you need to build the Temple. Collect the necessary materials and place them anywhere in your village. Once it is built, Ratau will teach you sermons and rituals that are very important in strengthening the faith of the followers. He will ask you to come inside and deliver your first sermon.
You will draw energy from your followers to fill another meter, unlocking powerful new abilities that you will use during your campaigns. Ratau will then ask you to return to the Lands of the Old Faith to collect the Sacred Stone Fragments.
It's time for another crusade. Return to the Dark Forest and go through the doorway. Take your weapon and go inside.
At some point in the beginning of this playthrough, Ratau will give you the ability of the Crown, which will allow you to use curses. In fact, these are "spells" that perfectly complement your physical attacks. However, there will be a limited number of curses available to you and you need to replenish your "mana" by collecting passion (heat) - small red balls that drop from enemies.
After reaching the end of the first room and collecting the loot, go through the doorway. More branches will appear on the map, and before the battle with the mini-boss in this area, you will need to go through an additional room.
Length?Go through the rooms and eventually meet Haro, a wise old owl who will give you three broken Commandment Stone Fragments - exactly what you were looking for.
Now get to the end of the run to return the fragments to the village. Continue your crusade until you reach this area's mini-boss: Valefar.
Valefar shoots bullets, but otherwise is another fairly easy opponent. He will jump around the arena, causing a small shockwave on contact. Dodge to avoid this attack and use the short window to land a couple of hits.
More dangerous attacks come from small fireballs that it fires from its mouth, either in an outward circle or in a small line straight towards you.
Both attacks can be easily avoided and then close the gap with Valefar to land a couple of counters. Keep going until the health bar is depleted. As before, you will be able to recruit Valefar into your Cult. You will also be able to choose your prize and collect a chest of loot before returning to your village.
When you get back to the village, you'll probably want to visit the Sanctuary and collect your accumulated Devotion. Your Followers will continue to pray until the Sanctuary is full, at which point their Devotion will be atwasted. So, you need to make sure you always collect this currency when you return from the Crusades.
Now you need to enter the Temple and go to the Altar to proclaim a new Doctrine with the help of the Tablet of Commandments you just received. In the Crown menu at the top, you will see an icon that allows you to declare a new doctrine. The first Doctrine is the same for all - the Bonfire Ritual. Select it to receive a new Ritual that you can perform to increase the faith of the Cult.
Each time you proclaim a new doctrine, you will be presented with two options, but you can only choose one, and the other option will disappear forever... so choose wisely! Fortunately, they all provide benefits, so there is never a wrong choice.
After proclaiming your first doctrine and unlocking the ritual, Ratau will inform you that you need to collect 25 bones in order to perform the bonfire ritual. Thus, you will need to return to the Dark Forest and complete another crusade. It seems that you are already beginning to understand the meaning of the game! Upon entering Darkwood, you will see available weapons and a curse. Collect both items to start a new run. Keep following any path until you reach the mini-boss at the very end. 25 bones can be collected naturally by defeating common enemies like skeletons.
Who?And when you get to the room with the mini-boss, you will meet Barbatos. It will burrow underground and then jump out and attack suddenly. If it hits you with its spikes, you'll take damage even if it's burrowed into the ground, so it's best to avoid it until it pops up to the surface. When this happens, land a couple of hits on him and back away, as he will either send a shockwave of spikes outward from his body (dodge) or release a lot of projectiles.
As with the fight with Amdusias, the projectiles are telegraphed and easy to avoid, but they spread more sporadically. Once you deplete his health bar, you can recruit Barbatos, collect the loot, and return to the village.
Upon your return, you can check on your Followers to see how they are feeling. When you are ready to perform the bonfire ritual, enter the temple, approach the altar and select it from the list of rituals.
Ratau will praise you and ask for one last favor before heading back to his home. You need to interact with your Followers, increase their loyalty, give someone a gift and collect a reward from the Follower for increasing the level of loyalty.
At any time, you can visit Ratau by using the teleport near the village exit. Travel to the Lonely Cabin and enter the insideb. Ratau will introduce you (and challenge you) to a mini-game called Knucklebones. If you manage to defeat Ratau, you will unlock the "Hearts II" tarot card. You can repeat, but in the future you will receive only gold as a reward.
Return to your village and prepare for the final crusade through the Dark Forest, as all that's left is to fight the first Bishop, Leshim.
