Riot Games announces first Valorant esports tournaments

Not much time has passed since the release of Valorant, but it was enough for Riot Games to announce the first official tournaments. All of them are united by a single name VALORANT Ignition Series.

According to the publisher, this is the first step towards becoming an esports discipline. An agreement was signed with a couple of dozen esports organizations, each of which will be personally responsible for hosting a particular tournament. They will consist of several stages: qualification, exhibition matches and closed events for the best esportsmen. There will be at least one event every week.

The first two tournaments will be held June 19-21 and will be called RAGE VALORANT JAPAN Invitational (JPN) and G2 Esports Invitational (EMEA). Then events will take place in other parts of the world, including North America, Brazil, Korea, Oceania, Russia and the Middle East.

Valorant is currently ranked sixth most viewed on Twitch.
